What an absolutely beautiful sight. The photos we took at sunset were incredible. You can pay to go in to the castle for a full tour but we just walked around the outskirts when gates were open and were content enough with that.nInterested to hear that 3 Kings are buried here which is where the coat of arms comes from with the 3 crowns.nIt is so well preserved, the mote and grassed areas are pristine.
The priory itself is currently cordoned off due to recent storm damage but is still stunning and viewable from the outside. The staff were wonderful and attentive, and the views were amazing. Admission was half price due to the priory being cordoned off.
Took the metro to Tynemouth, beautiful sandy beach with a castle & priory with centuries of history from the Saxons, English civil war, 2nd war defense, coast guard building. Beautiful priory ruins with amazing views across the sea & mouth of the Tyne. The castle is well worth exploring. Massive graveyard next to the ruins.
We visited on a hot sunny day. It is an impressive piece of history and I really loved that a lot of it was preserved. I always find a sense of peace within these places and Tynemouth Priory and Castle was no difference. The staff were lovely and very accommodating, they were super dog friendly, which makes a lot of difference to us as we have two big dogs!nOnce inside the information is good but not overloading. The view from the coastal side is stunning and just absolutely beautiful. We got some fantastic pictures. We really enjoyed visiting, the facilities were clean and the little shop is cute. We found a lovely nearby fish and chip shop and sat just outside the castle and finished our visit with these. I would imagine it'll be quite cold on a windy / overcast day due to being so close to the coast, but for us it was spectacularly sunny!
Saturday 12th OctnInteresting remains and set in an area with great views.nPleasant and friendly staff on arrival too.nRaining as we arrived so was even quiter and less people than expected.nPleasant stroll around the grounds
