A really nice pub, great location, friendly staff, there is one flaw however. I have now had the house burger there twice, and on both occasions it was dry, slightly over cooked, and boring. I suggest: Get some mince meat, add finely chopped onions, mixed herbs and an egg, then squish into burgers. Serve in a bun with mayonnaise, a bit of warm camembert, some sweet red onion chutney and rocket. Charge an extra £1 for those that want bacon. I'm sure people would happily pay an extra couple of pounds for this and it would actually be nice. All the other food is really good however.

My family and I had Sunday lunch here yesterday to celebrate a birthday. Food was excellent and the the staff could not have been more helpful. There was even a jazz band playing. Great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Had no reservation on what was the first sunny Sunday of the year. The car park was full but we tried it and could not have been made to feel more welcome, a table in the garden was found, menu drinks and the most delicious roast all appeared with no fuss just lots of attention and care. I totally recommend this lovely spacious and extremely well run establishment plus it’s dog friendly.....

Have had great experiences here before but we had a very average experience here tonight. The food was good but given that we were one of about 6 tables maximum, the service was shoddy. Two unasked bottles of water were placed on the table as we arrived that were were assumed to want to pay for. The waitress was not genuinely attentive and not at all bothered by us there, it seemed like we were there just to make some money. She knew that it was my mother’s birthday, but there was no mention of happy birthday or making of us feel welcome. Considering we were the biggest party in the restaurant, there was no special personal service and it was a tad dismissive. We really like The Welldiggers but it was fairly underwhelming compared to normal.

We went around the recommended walk before stopping for lunch. Can well recommend the walk. The pub is very dog friendly with good sized dog biscuits on the bar. My dog also enjoyed a bottle of special dog beer. Our lunch was also very good.
