A very enjoyable experience visiting the Kevis House Gallery. In particular being sho...
Very nice historic house and gardens to visit. Contains the first privately owned art gallery with some outstanding artwork and statues, many by Turner. National Trust membership recommended or you have to pay extra for guided tours to access most of the house.
The walk from the car park to the house is quite long and uphill. If you have difficulty walking there is a pedestrian entrance at the top in the town and a public carpark not to far away.

This is an amazing property, but it's evident that NT is having a hard time keeping up with renovation and upkeep, which is understandable given the scale of the property. Still, it's nicely presented, and the staff is excellent. Definitely do the guided tour rather than self guided- the guides are so knowledgeable about the history of the house and family that they make it really come to life. The fact that a property of this scale had stayed in the family for 900 years is a testament to their ability to navigate the political waters over the centuries.

5* for two reasons: the art and the parkland. Even by NT standards, the art pedigree is sensational. I had no idea there was so much by Turner.
The park is a definitive Capability Brown style. Definitive. And the execution rivals the parks of some of England's great houses IMO - it's so varied w/ loads of hidden features in actually a very manageable space.
Rutting deer were a bonus. I'll be back in summer.

We went just after NY and they had a lovely trail for kids and the an interesting display in the manor - the kids enjoyed both outside and inside. Lots of space to run around and I bet it's lively in the summer when one can being a picnic!

Lots of space kids to run around outside, we didn't go into the house as our children are a bit too young and energetic. The grounds are lovely and we visited in February, so in spring/summer would be even better.
The café is pretty good. Standard National Trust - good quality but a bit pricey.
