Story

The Washington is the spiritual home of Sheffield’s music scene. Through the years they’ve all passed through; drinking, performing and perhaps even working behind the bar. From the glory years of The Limit when Pulp would meet here, to intimate gigs from Wet Nuns, The Washington has seen it all.

We’re a little off the beaten track, which is just the way we like like. Not too far, mind. We’re stumbling distance from Division Street, on the bottom corner of Devonshire Green. We’re the only city centre pub to have a beer garden big enough to host our own music festival in, and a dancefloor intimate enough to feel every groove of every record.

Each week we have cutting edge bands and left of center DJs during the week and good times party sounds at the weekend ‘til three in the morning. You’re just as likely to be nestled in beside a bright eyed student having their mind blown by one of our DJs as a grizzled old muso reminiscing about the time they saw Debbie Harry in here. You’ll find them all in The Washington.

Me and two friends were visiting Sheffield for the night and we were recommended to come here by some random locals. Well, they did us an absolute solid because what a night we had here! The music was spot on, good crowd of people and good selection of beverages. I would 100% recommend visiting here on a Friday/Saturday night. I will be coming back next time I'm in Big Sheff!
Amazing bar! Best one in the whole of South Yorkshire. If you're visiting and you need somewhere to go get a drink or a great night out, definitely the place to be. Been there over 100 times, amd never regretted my decision, honestly, I'd just like them to stay open later.Food: 5/5
I went this evening to see a friend play in a Tramlines Fringe event. The bouncer refused me entry, claiming that my black jogging bottoms contravened a dress code. There is no dress code on the website. I had worn the same style of clothes on my previous visit to the pub, which was excellent, and enjoyable. I guess it was also my final visit there, sadly.
Went for early evening drinks. Staff friendly and drinks reasonably priced. Some comfy sofas, some booths and some high tables. We didn’t go outside but have been told that the beer garden is fabulous. Small dance floor area.
The service is really nice and ambience outside is great as well, overall a good place.Service: 4/5
In a very real sense the Washington has become alive, or at least quasi-alive, and in ways specifically and fundamentally analogous to ourselves. A place that is closer to the future than that which we might that imagine.Food: 5/5
Extremely loud, range of beers is quite limited, but at least it's not as stabby as it used to be 20 years ago. I was stabbed zero times in fact, which is the correct number for an evening out. Wouldn't recommend unless you hate talking to your friends or are going to see a specific band.
The place smells like piss and maybe beer. Service is appalling. I asked for a cider tonight, and the bartender just said "no". I thought he was being funny, but apparently not. He was just being racist. The other bartenders told me I shouldn't be "barking orders" when all I did was politely ask for a cider. I reiterated my order, and politely. Never have I been treated with such disrespect. Jeez. They refused to serve me. I witnessed insecure children trying to display their power and authority over a customer. You don't want to take my money? Fine by me. I'll gladly leave your pissy establishment.
Called in for the Whip It night and wasn't disappointed. Quality reasonably priced beers served by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Jason the DJ is arguably the best in Sheffield, able to read the crowd in an instant and play relevant music to keep people entertained. Well worth a visit for the DJ set alone!Service: 5/5
Nice pub bar a little out of the way of the main city center but worth a visit especially if the Sunshine is out with a beer garden around the back.....drinks reasonable priced and a good selection to choose from...nice to start a night out was quiet when I called on a Saturday evening at around 7pm
