The Volunteer is the original smallest pub on the Island and,it is famed for it`s selection of fine real ales. It is popular with the Ventnor locals but everyone is made welcome.There is a meat draw on Sundays followed by live music.

Friendly local now run by Mr Perks who knows how to run a pub well. Perfect ale. Only open at weekends at the moment but will be open every day later this year.

The Volly is been our "local" each time we visited the old family home in Ventnor. Over the years we've seen several landlords and the pub go through periods of thick and thin. It closed in early 2017, but to our delight it had reopened by Christmas, so we popped in to support it. What a disappointment. The new landlord in refurbishing the place, has also taken away it's local culture. Gone are the old photos of the Comedy Jazz Band; the locals' pewter tankards; and anything that referred to the venue's history and sense of community. It's being turned into UK memorabilia theme bar with union jack bunting. Not quite our thing.

Great pub with cracking selecttion of ales. A must when visiting Ventnor

New management are a bunch of jingoistic idiots. Avoid. Go to the Exchange instead.
