Food was just good but nothing extraordinary which will make you go back again!!nnWe heard about this place so many times but due to the location we never felt like going so out of the way just for food. But finally we thought to give it a try!!nThe food was definitely good - we had ordered okra fries, chicken lollipop, prawns, masala dosa as starter and in mains lamb curry and flaky roti.nnThe dosa was really really good - the masala inside the dosa was perfectly seasoned!!nnThe prawns were also good with bold flavours.nnThe okra fries were okay but some chutney at the side would have complete the dish!nnThe chicken was flavor full and can’t complain but its nothing extraordinary which you can’t find anywhere else.nnMy complaint about the lamb curry - it was bit too salty and the lamb pieces could have been softer. Definitely not the one you expected from such a famous restaurant!nnBut overall nice experience but nothing special which will make us travel all the way to eat here again :
Exceptional Flavours in a Cozy Islington SettingnnAfter seeing the buzz on social media, my friends and I, all huge fans of South Indian cuisine, finally made the trip to The Tamil Prince for lunch. While it’s a bit of a journey from Central London to Islington, the food makes the commute worthwhile.nThe restaurant embraces a minimal aesthetic in both its decor and its curated menu. We started with the Okra Fried, Onion Bhaji and Chicken Lollipops, they were standout snacks that pair perfectly with a cold beer. For the mains, the Roti was impressively fluffy, though we did find the portion sizes across the board to be a bit on the small side.nThe Chicken Curry featured beautifully succulent thighs and a rich sauce. However, the Lamb Curry fell slightly short for us; it was a bit over-salted and lacked the spicy heat we were craving. The absolute star of the meal, however, was the Lamb Chops. They were perfectly marinated, tender, and packed with flavour.nThe service was excellent throughout our visit. Just a heads-up: indoor seating is quite limited, so definitely book ahead even for a midday meal. Overall, a great atmosphere and a memorable lunch!
On the last day of our London trip, we decided to make a stop at The Tamil Prince, a popular Indian gastropub that has built a reputation for serving authentic South Indian flavours in a relaxed neighbourhood pub setting. A little out of the way from central London, but definitely worth the journey.nnWe were seated outside the restaurant and luckily enjoyed a pleasant, breezy evening that made for a very comfortable dining experience. We started with a pint of Guinness before exploring the menu. Having enjoyed Indian food extensively across Asia, I was curious to see whether the dishes would live up to their reputation. I must say the flavours came surprisingly close to what I am used to eating back home.nnThe Prince’s Special Masala Dosa was beautifully crisp and packed with flavour, accompanied by vibrant chutneys that added freshness and spice. The Channa Bhatura was a real highlight, arriving as an enormous golden puffed bread paired with a rich chickpea curry and cooling raita. We also enjoyed the Chicken Lollipop, which was juicy, tender and coated with a delicious sweet chilli glaze, while the crispy okra fries were addictive and perfect as a snack alongside our drinks.nnThe Robata Lamb Chops were smoky, well-charred and beautifully seasoned with South Indian spices. To finish the meal, we couldn’t resist ordering an extra serving of their comforting daal curry with flaky roti. The daal was rich, hearty and deeply satisfying – the perfect way to end our final meal in London.nnThe atmosphere was lively and welcoming, filled with locals enjoying good food and drinks. Service was friendly overall, although there were a couple of minor lapses as two of the dishes we ordered were accidentally served twice. Nevertheless, the quality of the food more than made up for it.nnCombining the charm of a traditional British pub with the bold flavours of Tamil cuisine, The Tamil Prince delivered a memorable dining experience. A wonderful final stop before heading home and certainly a place I would happily return to on my next visit to London.
After a little bit of a kerfafle over how the waitress can take an order on a shared table, we were finally off. The food here is good - loved the flaky parata, the chicken curry and the crunchy, fried okra fries. But it was the lamb chops, succulent and flavourful with Gods own country spices that was the show stopper. Service was lack lustre and the ambiance was moot, but this is still a smart, Desi gastropub.
My proper introduction to Indian cuisine has been well overdue and I wanted to wait for the right place to really immerse myself in the culinary delight that I knew I would enjoy. My husband and I saved this gem for a special occasion and went for a romantic lunch to celebrate our third wedding anniversary.nThe Tamil Prince did not disappoint and has left me wanting more.nFrom our first taste of the Okra fries to our last bite of the spiced Robata lamb every mouthful was a delight; freshly made, well seasoned, spiced and full of flavour.nWe can not wait till next year
