Story

The Strickland Arms sits in a fine location on the edge of the Lake District, overlooking the entrance to historic Sizergh Castle, near Kendal. The building itself has all the best of the traditional features of the area.

We have built quite a reputation for our food - often remarked upon as 'costing less than expected for such splendid dining' - we present a menu with something for everyone, clearly using much local produce and being individually prepared to order.

Our helpful and friendly staff deliver an atmosphere which is homely and welcoming to visitors and locals alike. Dogs and children are very welcome.

"In all, an excellent establishment - the quality is high in all respects, so go there and see for yourselves, you won’t be disappointed."

The Strickland Arms has been recommended in the Michelin Pub Guide and the Good Pub Guide for 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010

In addition, we have also been recommended in the Good Beer Guide for 2009 and 2010

It was fine, the building is nice, the food was mostly ok, the beers were quite nice. The staff were quite friendly but needed to be asked several times for things like water, condiments - which arrived towards the end of our meal yet still didn’t have ketchup or mayonnaise, no salt and pepper. They didn’t know what the specials were - we told them. Not enough chips (9) with the mains. The special pineapple ginger sponge pudding wasn’t special, it was so small the kitchen had decided to serve it with a random shortbread biscuit , a strange decision. It was fine, but won’t be rushing back.

Very impressive food. They elevated cheese and leek pie to another level. When chips arrive stacked into a little structure it either means they're being artsy, or the chips are thing of beauty, happily, here, it was the latter. Pub itself unspoilt, open fire, real ales, friendly and helpful staff. Full marks.

Used to be good for veggies but less so now. When I raised this staff did not seem bothered about catering for non meat eaters
