The Standard Inn

About

An iconic 15th Century pub with food and rooms, The Standard Inn is a meeting place at the heart of the Rye community for locals and visitors alike.

Story

Situated in the heart of the citadel, The Standard Inn, one of the most loved and popular pubs in Rye has reopened it's doors to welcome back old regulars and make new friends alike.

Years of plaster board and bitumen have been pulled away to reveal the gem of the 15th Century pub with its beautifully carved beams and warming open fires for cold frosty days.

We are building a reputation for delicious seasonal cooking, using abundant local produce such as lamb from the Salt Marshes to fish caught and delivered daily from Rye Harbour.

Along with an interesting and varied wine list we have a great selection of craft beers and local ales including our own Standard Inn Farmer Ale.

No individual bookings taken - just come along and join us for a drink or a bite to eat.

Great spot, right in the middle of town. Breakfast was amazing. So much character, I don't think there is a single straight wall in the building! As the rooms are directly above the pub there is some noise in the rooms, but bar isn't open very late.
Had a lovely evening meal here. Good honest pub food! Staff are very lovely unfortunately no one checked everything was okay with the food whilst eating. Luckily it was. Apart from that little oversight I would recommend this pub.Service: 3/5
Very friendly and hospitable bar staff, the younger guy who usually wears a white top Louis is extremely polite and well mannered - a real credit to your business. Always a friendly welcome, always a nice pint and its my favourite place for an after work pint!Service: 5/5
Came here for dinner on Saturday and I would say it was average. The service was quite slow had to wait a while to order and couldn’t catch any of the staffs attention as they were all behind the bar. The starters were great but the mains very mediocre, I had the fish and chips and it was like I was just eating batter! Hardly any fish in there! I must add we had dinner here last year and it was brilliant! Maybe they were just busy having an off day. Apart from that I would recommend if in the area.
Compact, busy and great atmosphere. All staff are welcoming and keen to make your experience a good one. Tables cannot be booked and are allocated on a first come basis and is busy from 6pm. Have a drink at the bar whilst you wait for a table to free up or jump into one of the heated pods in the garden if one is available. Food & drinks: We had the crab starter and the catch of the day. Locally sourced fresh ingredients, well prepared, makes for a really enjoyable meal with portion sizes being just right for us. Certainly recommend this place, give it a go and see for yourself.
Tried this pub for lunch, we had fish and chips which was so fresh and very tasty. The place is very cozy and people very friendly. Will definitely go back again.Service: 5/5
We used this pub, and the staff were incredibly friendly, making us travelers feel very welcome. The food was delicious and plentiful, making it a memorable evening in Rye.Service: 5/5
Had a lovely Sunday lunch here, a really nice pub with a good selection of food and drinks. The pub is clean and comfortable, busy in the weekend.Service: 5/5
We stayed in one of the smaller rooms Hastings. The only downside to our stay, if you can even call it that, was that we didn't have any milk in our room for making tea. Other than that the whole stay and experience was fantastic. Thank you so much for looking after us. Food & drinks: Food was outstanding. Great portions and we thoroughly enjoyed all of it. Noteworthy details: We came to stay here with our little dog and it was the perfect night stay. Cosy and clean rooms, great location and very picturesque. Great service from the team and delicious food. Great value for money. Would definitely go back.
Disappointing stay. Ceiling leaked onto my laptop costing me hundreds of pounds, yet the hotel is refusing to help. Don't recommend this place, there's lots of other nice hotels to stay in Rye.Rooms: 1/5
