Wonderful atmosphere and setting. Stopped in for a couple of pints on the first sunny spring day of 2018 and made good use of the outdoor area. Staff very friendly and local real ale pretty good. A change from the large number of Shepherd Neame pubs in the area and their relatively poor choice. Will definitely return!

We walked in there on a Sunday afternoon for a drink in the bar, the place looked amazing as it was such a trip back in time. What let it down for us was the seating arrangement and strangely enough the customers . There were three of us, myself and two ladies when we got our drinks we were standing and clearly looking for somewhere to sit but people completely ignored us like we weren't important enough to be there.A simple move from one chair to another would have meant we all could have a chair. The other thing was that most of the chairs were huge armchairs which too much space. I had a Pint of bitter which the young barman recommend but it was revolting and so I couldn't drink it.I soupy if I would ever go there again. The town it's self though was fantastic and I would definitely go there again.

Beautiful traditional decor, interesting history and very friendly staff made our trip to the mermaid absolutely brilliant! Rebuilt in 1420, this pub has lots of quirks, a stunning wide original fireplace baked in English history. Bar snack were fresh and tasty, and the 51 strong gin selection kept us entertained as much as the bar man and owner did. Well done guys. Keep up the great work!

Simply Beautiful is the word for a very quaint place. The staff are exceptional which can be hard to find these days. We dined in and the food was lovely. The room was very charming too. Sadly i have to add we didn't sleep well, as the pillows were not comfortable at all, especially when paired with such a firm bed which would have passed if the pillows were better
