The food was lovely, the Service was excellent. We came for lunch on a very rainy day and were told to sit wherever we wanted. Ordered a 2 course lunch with drinks which arrived promptly. During our meal two customers arrived both with Dogs who were also told they could sit anywhere they wanted. Unfortunately they chose the table next to ours. Throughout the meal we could smell the wet dogs which was really off putting. One dog was lying right next to my table and kept standing up and shaking itself. Is it normal now for dogs to be allowed in restaurant areas in pubs? Had they been there first, we absolutely wouldn’t have chosen to sit there. There was no designated area for doggy people or for non doggy people and because of this we wouldn’t recommend or go back even though everything else was good.
Lovely job done with the refurb, making it a very comfortable hostelry. Just had a couple of drinks so did not sample the food. First pint of IPA was off but there was no problem in changing for another, which was very good. Staff were very pleasant.
Only came for a quiet Sunday evening drink but was forced to drink up because of a bunch of raucous party goers who were perfectly OK in one end of the lounge but were moved to our area. And boy they were outrageously loud. One couple drank up & went then we were next , but because they were obviously bringing money into the pub the management said nothing. I'm all up for people having a good time but when it ruins other peoples night it's not on. Won't be returning, purely for no-one saying anything.
Just stayed at St Marys Gate Inn and couldn’t recommend it enough. Room was great, food was perfect and all the staff were so welcoming and friendly! Great breakfast in the morning and ideal location.nnMade to feel so welcome from arrival to departure and nothing was too much - really special atmosphere.nnArundel is the ideal place to visit for a few nights - the Castle is a day itself with great tours full of 1000 years of history and the town is full of gems.
This was a stay for a celebration send-off for my wife who passed away recently. We booked accommodation and the restaurant for the celebration itself.nnEverything was excellent, the rooms, the restaurant, the food and especially the staff who were incredibly helpful and really made efforts above and beyond to make the event a success.nnI cannot recommend St Mary’s Gate highly enough for accommodation and as a venue to eat, drink and meet friends.
