The Punch Bowl Inn, Crosthwaite

Two separate things: 1. Food. Delicious, surprising, original and brilliantly crafted, with great attention to detail. Friendly, helpful, but not overwhelming service. Expensive and small portions, as other reviewers think? I disagree. If you want quantity and economic prices, go to a traditional pub, where originality and unusual skill are not required. Food here is out of the ordinary, and you pay for what you get. On a critical note: I think the background music is unnecessary. Not too loud, luckily. 2. Rooms. Again, great attention to detail, great setting and friendly setting. Not cheap, but what you get matches what you pay.

Great food and atmosphere! All 6 dishes we ordered were tasty except a slightly too dry Guinea fowl breast. Service is pretty good in general but they don’t seem to realize our water bottle being empty after we finished our starters. Like some said, the portions are on the small end - bigger than fine dining but smaller than normal portions. On the bright side, this does allow you to finish a starter, main and dessert without being stuffed, which is great. Overall worth a visit!

Reasonably priced for the high quality food on offer. Very good and attentive service. Desserts are particularly good!

Went for a family dinner. We choose the Punchbowl as there were vegans in our party and a vegan menu had been advertised. The vegan meals, whilst tasty, were genuinely tiny and far from inexpensive. Meat-based meals looked great, service and drinks excellent.

Dropped by for Sunday lunch. The roast beef and trimmings were very excellent and at a reasonable price.
