Norwood Junction  £5.70 Cruzcampo A Superb Welcoming Local. The Portland Arms is located on Portland Road in South Norwood, South London. The nearest station is Norwood Junction, it’s a ten minute walk to get here. This pub started life as The Prince of Denmark and was built in 1898. Portland Road used to have numerous pubs that were dotted along this busy stretch of road, today there is only one. In 2009 the pub closed its doors and remained dormant for seven years. Thankfully in 2016 the pub reopened and was renamed The Portland Arms. This is large one bar pub that has a contemporary look and feel. The servery stretches down the length of the main bar area and has a sturdy solid wood counter. The walls are clad in Georgian style panels and exposed brickwork sections. There is plenty of seating throughout plus a few stools around the bar. At the rear of the pub is a decked beer garden with a cosy covered area complete with Tv. The beer selection has a good mix of popular keg favourites, craft and three cask ales. I decided on a Cruzcampo, my pint was excellent, price point was below average. The food menu is a combination of classic pub grub and a selection of burgers, large Fish & Chips costs £14.95. If you visit on a Sunday, roasts take centre stage. I arrived around 3pm on a mild Saturday afternoon in January. The pub was fairly busy with a relaxed welcoming feel. The punters were a mix of locals from all ages both having a drink and dining, the food smelt amazing. The soundtrack was a mix The Beatles, Chilli Peppers and soulful tunes. The service was first class, the team here are friendly, courteous and took some time out to tell all about this lovely local pub. The pub shows live Premier and Champions League and hosts live bands. Check socials below for what’s on. The @portlandarmsse25 is your bonafide local pub that ticks all the boxes. The building is beautiful, the vibe easy to settle into, the beer and food are on point and you’ll be well looked after. This is a fine establishment that is well worth a visit. ℹ Info correct on visiting 13.01.24
Lovely little pub which is always busy. Really good food and is also dog friendly which is a massive bonus after a walk around Norwood park. It’s a little pricey especially for non alcoholic beers, but the staff are friendly enough. They also serve Sunday roasts until around 8pm on a Sunday evening
I had the most beautiful Roast dinner here yesterday and so did all of us who sat down. The food really was outstanding. Quite simply The Best roast dinner I've had in a long time! Thank you for a wonderful dinner and such lovely welcoming hospitality Food: 5/5
Delicious food making you feel at home as you can see from my photos. Drinks and cocktails at decent prices to suit many different taste buds. Indoor and outdoor seating available for any time of the year. The staff are extremely friendly, kind and accommodating. I always look forward to the quiz on a Monday evening and the Sunday Roast. Mouth-watering dishes for adults and children. Great spot for booking events such as parties and meetings. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!!! Vegetarian options: The menu caters for vegetarians, giving more than 1 option for mains and sides. Kid-friendliness: Definitely a kid-friendly pub and the staff make them feel calm and happy with their engagement and can provide colouring pencils. A range of kids meals, drinks and cutlery available. Wheelchair accessibility: Wide enough doors and aisles to allow wheelchair users to move about. Ramp at the entrance and small slope to allow access to the garden.
It’s a great local pub with a large beer garden and friendly staff. The food is nice, particularly the Sunday roast bring back the pies please!. My only suggestion would be to replace one or two of the bog standard beers with nicer ones. I really liked the signal lager but that’s been gone for a while!
Very nice place. Good welcome, hospitality is good, staff helpful. Good selection of food and drink, and we're repeat customers as it's so consistently high quality. Get a loyalty card, save points and get cash equivalent plus the card holder gets a free birthday meal each year. Reasonable value now prices have risen with the extortionate costs in the UK in 2023, very dog friendly - heartily recommended. Sunday lunch is good, with consistent quality. The loss of the original manager and then the replacement, plus regular turnover of staff means that the pub is often understaffed and service suffers, so only 2 stars for service. Food quality still good. It would present better value to be more sensible about offers on things like groups of shots or jugs of beer, or Sangria or similar, but staff are often dogmatic and unhelpful so lose my business for such items because of this attitude that completely fails the customer and does not offer value.
Excellent Monday night quiz, great vibe and mix of people. Food was great, ordered the burgers and both were very nice. Good selection of beers on tap. Friendly and helpful staff, will definitely be back to check out the garden during the dayFood: 5/5
The Portland Arms is a great little pub on Portland Road. Well located. The food is good & the service is fast. The staff are very friendly. They have a good layout and you can watch all the major sports events here. There is also a good outside garden space available. A good place to have a few drinks and snacks with friends Food: 5/5
Cosy, nice, a little bit of a hidden gem. Nothing blazing but friendly atmosphere, the staff is polite and friendly. Good for family , but that may be based on my experience. it was Sunday, and by the way: the biggest Sunday roast I've ever been served. Outstanding chicken. Optimal on the Pricewise side. I'll pay the pub some other visit. I saw they have an happy hour burger night and one with alcohols special deals... Just behind Norwood junction train station, almost an oasi in the desert.
Amazing pub! The staff/owner were all super friendly The food is super yummy! They have several types of roasts available, the little backyard is great for Summer days They also have TV/watch games The food is really nice: their chef is so kind and able to adapt almost any dish to gluten free dish They also have vegan options Very great food and super kind staff: highly recommend! I was not super hungry so my main was actually an appetizer Dessert: chocolate/orange torte with raspberry coulis and vegan vanilla ice crem
