We recently stopped for a meal and a beer. The restaurant has a charming atmosphere and the building has a rich history that goes back to the medieval times. The staff were friendly, making us feel right at home. While the beer was really good, we found the food to be just average. However, we’re definitely considering giving it another shot in the future.
Complete treasure of a place. Food is generous and delicious - menu is exciting, with plenty of options that make me wish for return visits to try everything. Not to mention the building is a historic delight and an incredible feat of architectural preservation. Staff were wonderful and warm, and all in all an incredibly wonderful way to while away a cozy afternoon. Will be dreaming about this pub for a while.
Saw this on review, the oldest building in Manchester. Decided to come to try fish and chips, one of the best I had in the UK. Finish with a pint of Madri Excepcional beer recommended by the bar tender. Fantastic eveningFood: 5/5
We needed food before heading to an event. This was right next door. Amazing food! I got the fish and chips. The daughters got the chicken and oyster with mushrooms and the other one got the chicken schnitzel .... wonderful food. The atmosphere is old history and was great.Food: 5/5
Recommend eating here before your trip to the Arena. The pub is a beautiful tutor building. Low beams and an incredible wooden roof on the 3rd of 3 floors. It's very central so do book in advance. Go for the pies. They are massive and fabulous Food: 5/5
Didn't expect to find this lovely old half-timbered pub right next to the modern Arndale Centre in the middle of Manchester! Dating from 1552, it's Manchester's oldest pub and has a very eventful history you can read about it on a plaque outside the entrance. Had lunch here while on a theatre trip, and it didn't disappoint! The Old Wellington is just how you'd expect a Tudor pub to look, with authentic wooden beams and mullioned windows. There's a small downstairs bar, dining rooms on two upper floors, and a large outside seating area. I was seated in the cosy first floor restaurant. The bar staff and my server, Steve, were really friendly, and service was quick and attentive. There's an extensive drinks menu had a nice glass of red wine. The lunch menu included a varied selection of pies, sharing platters, and pub favourites. Opted for the chicken and truffled oyster mushroom pie with clotted cream mash, thyme roasted carrots, and a jug of lovely rich gravy. The pie was hot and filling with thick, crisp pastry and tender chicken, and the whole meal was well cooked and tasty. The chocolate brownie, with vanilla ice-cream, was deliciously rich, and the latte came with a small piece of flapjack. Not expensive either, considering the location and quality of the meal. Would certainly come again.
Went for a quick pint in this historic of a pub. Sat on the top floor and looks wise it’s amazing. Would defo recommend for a peaceful pint and a chat.Service: 3/5
A really nice pub in a fantastic historical Tudor building. This is a really nice piece of historical architecture home to one of the oldest pubs in the area and it is a nice place to stop for a drink when in the area.Service: 5/5

A really nice old traditional pub with a good selection of beers and friendly staff! The pub itself has a great history which is displayed on a plaque outside. Highly recommend!Service: 5/5
