Had a good laugh and made 2 feel welcome. Barmaids are a bit chirpy though. Food: 3/5
I only use this on football days as it's a very popular meeting place for local Portsmouth fans. Great beer, friendly efficient staff and always very busy
Great pub for pre match beers. Good Pompey crowd. Excellent service, very quick given how busy it was.Service: 5/5
A little gem of a pub that I'm thrilled to have found! Despite living around the corner for nearly two years I had never really ventured into the Nell. It was recommended to me by a friend and I thought I would give it a go. So glad I listened! Amy the landlady is lovely and so welcoming, all the staff and the locals are warm and friendly and the pub has a strangely modern feel to it whilst remaining traditional. Great range of drinks at very good prices and even my dog is welcome! They have made a loyal customer of me in just three visits. I would much rather spend my money in there than in a chain pub or bar, and I will be encouraging all my friends to do the same. Looking forward to earning my title of "regular" customer!
When I found out The Nell was going to be taken over by the same guy that runs the Old House At Home I was excited for it. For years this pub had been neglected and I knew that soon it would be turned around. I visited on opening day on 20th May and a fair few of my friends came down to see the refurbished Southsea pub. We were all made to feel welcome, the place was spotless and there were so many drinks to choose from at really good prices. Looking forward to seeing the live music that's coming up. Definitely a good place to meet up with friends.
What a gem of a find - exactly what Portsmouth is missing! Great staff, fantastic range of beer and cider at good prices and a superb open mic night. What more could you ask for? Such a good atmosphere, we shall certainly aim to be regulars.
Excellent local pub with a great vibe, Atlantic pale ale on draft also.....Nice !!! Staff are very friendly and polite and service is quick, I am a Millwall supporter and the Pompey folks were alright !!!
Found the nell gwynne on the way back from work with my brother its a bit of a mission from my house but I'll always pop in and see chalky and the rest of the staff and customers as often as possible, never been welcomed and involved in the banter instantly anywhere else I've randomly found! And the prices are good as well as are the selection of drinks 5s all day long
Bar man was rude. Our driver asked for a non alcoholic drink, Apple juice, only to be laughed at by the barman. Drink and drive supporters welcome here.
Steve has done an amazing job renovating The Nell and has a massive range of quality ciders and beers - everyone was saying what a good pint it was & all drinks £2.50 on Mondays! : Recommend the Rum Cask cider!
