We had pre-booked for a table of 20+ and paid a deposit but it had been input correctly. The staff were good and managed to still seat us altogether as it's a large pub. Prices are reasonable. The food portions were good and they had some good deals on even for a Saturday. The food came out very quickly too, despite the size of our party. I would recommend! Kid-friendliness: It has a playground in the garden
Visited on a scorcher of a day. Service was excellent and very attentive without being over the top. It's a greene king so you know drinks prices are inflated but still tasty. We had some mixed chicken starters, a chicken/bacon baguette and a fish finger wrap before one of the horseshoe doughnuts to share. All food was fresh, tasty, plentiful and reasonably priced. It was a scorcher of a day as otherwise we'd have indulged in something more meat heavy! The football got put on and the volume was a bit loud but the lovely manager turned it down without us even needed to be asked. Wouldn't hesitate to return and when my car is next in for a service I'll be having breakfast and lunch here!
Food was excellent. Steak and ale pie with chips was beautiful. My wife found the mash was not very good at all. The onion ring sharer was a hit as usual. Great disabled access. Friendly and helpful staff Parking: All parking is close to the main building. Wheelchair accessibility: All flat and level. Nice wide doors and plenty of room between the tables.
Greene Kings are usually pretty good for what they are, we've worked in one, and we've eaten at a bunch of them. Somehow, I still haven't learned my lesson about going to Hungry Horses. If you have a look at the pictures attached, you'll see my mixed grill, made up of my "medium rare" microwaved steak, some raw chicken that fell apart on the plate, and some hard peas. In my opinion that's "pretty bad" for £15 Went to the toilet just before leaving and apart from the sand covered taps and slippery floor they were almost okay Look Greene Kings can absolutely slap, and I would absolutely still recommend going to them, just not this one.
The Merlin has been around for a long time, and for good reason. You walk into the building and immediately feel comfortable and even at peak hours on a Friday, I didn't find it difficult at all to find myself a place to sit. The service staff are wonderful, they're up for a laugh, they work at great speed and even while you're waiting for service they'll make sure they know you're there. When it comes to food, I've never seen a restaurant get food out as fast as this. I put my order in at the bar, and not even fifteen minutes later and everything I had ordered arrives at my table. The only reason I didn't give the food five stars is due to just got scalding hot it comes out to you. But then again, I suppose I'd complain if it were cold. Overall, The Merlin is a great experience with good competitive prices. You can't go wrong going here Vegetarian options: The menu itself has several options for vegetations and also a few vegan friendly choices Kid-friendliness: The Merlin has a climbing frame for children in their beer garden, as well as several coin operated adjustments in the building. Wheelchair accessibility: With a ramp to the car park from the street, and very little steps inside, wheelchair users will have an easy time getting inside and around
We enjoyed a celebration meal for my brother’s graduation across the road. We were served by Amelia who was friendly and chatty, despite it being very warm and busy! They could have done with more team working as pub was busy with the graduations but food was speedy and really tasty. We had the Veggie Lasagna and Garlic Bread which was really nice!
We haven't eaten here for donkeys even though we live really close, this was because at the time, the food and or the service wasn't up to scratch, however we went in yesterday on the off chance and really enjoyed the experience. We had the chicken new yorker and tandoori chicken sizzler from the super specials menu and then crumble and sticky toffee pud for desserts. All delicious and all affordable. Well done all
I visited at 5.30pm on a Monday afternoon and there were choice of tables to sit at. The pub was half full and the atmosphere was pleasant. The food arrived in 15 minutes from ordering. I had the vegan mushroom pie which was much nicer than expected. For desserts we had chocolate fudge cake and vegan berry crumble both of which were good. I would definitely visit again. We used the app to order which automatically applied a promotion offer on "pub classics", the price was good value. The staff were friendly and attentive. Dietary restrictions: There were a good choice of vegetarian and vegan options.
Went today for Sunday lunch. Place was 3/4 empty at 2pm. Ordered Sunday roast beef. Was like a microwave meal from a supermarket. Also drinks were more than average city centre price. It's a shame because the manager has been there a long time and she's obviously being forced to cut costsFood: 2/5
Visited here on Saturday 27th Nov for breakfast while the car was in for service. What a lovely place, very well decorated and very clean. The staff were outstanding, very polite and acknowledged their customers at all times. This kind of service is very rare these days, so hats off to you. The food was also fantastic, especially for the price. I had very low expectations based on a breakfast being less the £5. This was probably one of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. Amazing quality at such a low price. Overall, the value and customer experience here is first class. I felt I was paying budget prices for first class service. Outstanding. If your in the area or dropping your car off for a service at the local dealerships, then visit here while you wait, 100% worth it, we'll be visiting again. Can't cook breakfast this cheap again home
