Had a quick pit stop while waiting for the bus. A large traditional pub. Being Sam Smiths no phone use allowed. Paulicarus enjoyed a pint of Old Brewery bitter. Very good.Service: 5/5
A proper old fashioned pub. It's like stepping back in time in a good way. Very interesting building with original features Close to metro and centre, plus cheap as chips prices. The staff are always friendly.Service: 5/5
I've been drinking here for 20 years. Proper pub, cheap drinks and cheap pool tables upstairs. FYI, it's a Sam Smiths pub, so no phones or devices allowedService: 4/5
Really lovely pub and friendly, helpful staff. Welcoming atmosphere. We came in soaking wet after a football game, and the guy behind the bar was extremely welcoming. He went out of his way to make us feel at ease and welcome and acted in a friendly, professional manner. We’ll be stopping here every time we’re nearby now. Highly recommend!
Really lovely pub with a great atmosphere and very tasty and, bonus, cheap! house lager on tap. Only discovered this place recently but absolutely love it! Also has signs in the back area that it's a "digital detox pub", encouraging people to get off their phones and talk to each other- excellent idea Service: 5/5
Not like it used to be. 1st came here 40 years ago, live folk music upstairs on a Friday night. Ever since I'll pop in when in the area. Last few times I've noticed a sour tang on the bitter, as if the lines haven't been cleaned. I've experienced it in Sinclair's aswell. Sad to say that today 7th May will be my last visit to this once great pub.
Had the pleasure of walking in this pub once and will not return, weird vibe and aggressive horrible moody landlady, avoidService: 1/5
Very old fashioned pub that hasn't changed since it was built I suspect, cheap ale £3 a pint,no food and mobile devices are frowned upon.If you want a basic no frills pub the Malt Shovels is for you.Service: 4/5
Fairly big Sam smiths boozer. Takes card payments now!Food: 5/5
I feel bad for the staff having a boss like that. Poor attitude towards customers. Rude and obnoxious. Will not be returning.Service: 1/5
