I have been coming to the maids head for about 7 years. In that time I've eaten in and had lots to drink. I can say that I've always had a pleasant experience and it's for that reason that I will come here many more times. There are two sections of the Pub one for eating and one for drinking. On sunny days the garden and the front of the pub are beautiful places to sit and relax and take in the busyness of Wiken ; The carpark is small and can get full quickly. There's not a lot of parking on the side streets
What a beautiful place to eat and drink. The staff were fantastic. Food was well cooked and well presented. Covid safe environment. Seating outside or in. Inside tables were completely cleaned and disinfected after each customer.
Really good food and they went the extra mile for my birthday. Good service, not the quickest but it was good not to be rushed.
A very tasty Sunday Roast with a delicious dessert Bakewell Tart with ice-cream.
A good quality roast dinner, good selection of drinks, a fairly priced Sunday menu, will happily come back! :
We went for a family meal today, thankfully we booked as it was very busy! We thought the service would be poor given the number of people eating, however we were pleasantly surprised. The menu is quite limited, but to be honest, I think that makes the quality of the food better and even with 2 fussy members of the party, we all found a number of things that we liked, so all good. The service was quite quick, polite and we all got what we ordered. The food was absolutely lovely, well cooked and very tasty. Would thoroughly recommend and will definitely come again!
Freezing cold in pub, sat with coats on. Went with 4 girls for lunch, one being celiac - everything with Gluten Free next to it on menu is not - they only have 1 chip fryer which everything is fried in. We said that this wouldn't do and waitress said that it depends on severity of celiac, most people can tolerate some gluten total lack of education on allergies which is dangerous. Only 4 of us on table and 1 meal was forgotten. The burger came very blue - which is fine if we were asked for it that way we didn't nor were asked how we would like it. We left totally dissatisfied and out of pocket for rubbish. Went onto a warm pub with good service, good wine and gluten free guaranteed cake.
The four of us came on a Wednesday and to say that it was quiet is an understatement. As far as we could see we were the only diners. Many pubs would have said "Sorry, the kitchen is closed." but not the Maids Head. They served the fish & chips with a smile and a joke. We ate the fish and chips with a smile. It tasted very good and it was hot. It is difficult to tell if a pub is a good pub when it is very quiet and you're the only guests who eat but, after having experienced the food and the service, our opinion is that this pub will be very busy in a few months.
Visited on my way home from Bury, and fancied some food. I've eaten here years ago, so thought I'd return. Staff very friendly, although the customers in the adjoining room watching football were very loud at times, shouting and banging tables, and occasional expletive. Food was delicious still though, and I recommend the Korean Chicken burger .
Food was amazing and very reasonably priced. Staff were all friendly and atmosphere was lovely.
