Really nice pub! Very cosy with the fire! Dogs are allowed and the bartenders are very friendly!
One of the few real pubs left in Ely, full of charm and character. There is no television, no music, and such is the clientele you don't have to worry about people playing loud videos on their phones. It's one of the few outlets you won't feel like an eccentric to be seen with a newspaper. A pub like this should be cherished.
Great pub traditional cosy fire
A really nice oldie worlde pub with a great view of a pretty part of Ely.
The most nasty, obnoxious and self-righteous landlord I have ever encountered. The sort you would expect to wee in your drinks and spit in your food. I hardly ever give reviews but this man should be no where near front of house. Deserves zero stars.
Nice pub but absurdly expensive. Not surprised it was empty. Completely out of touch with real world prices - more expensive than Central London. Enter at your wallet's peril!
Grim. Stale beer. Unpleasant landlord. The bitter whiff of Brexiteers who realise they've laid a greasy log in their own bedsheets.
There are many contributing factors that can help swing a pub one way or another but it's almost always the quality of management that makes the real difference. It's a shame about this pub. It could be great. It doesn't have advantages like a beer garden or a pretty setting, but it is a good size and it's got enough separation between parts of the bar that it can host groups and individuals without all being overpowered. The beer selection is limited. Staff turnover seems constant and inexperienced. Opening times are sporadic. No food. If there was nowhere better within a short walk you could maybe understand, but there are several options and so you can only put the lack of effort down to laziness and the feeling that the management isn't really all that interested. Time to hang up the spurs and let someone else make something much better out of this high potential little pub
Very nice and traditional pub. They were friendly, and explained lots to us about the culture and the town.
Popped my head inside the door saw the Adnams Ghost Ship on the hand pump and was sold. Nice old fashioned unpretentious local with friendly mine host. They also had campari so the missus was happy too.
