Only had a breakfast which was tasty and enjoyable although it wasn’t hot enough when delivered. Service was a little slow. We sat in a booth and the bench seats need replacing, lost all the spring, I’m 6 foot tall and the table top was level with my chest.Food: 4/5
Often go in here for a meal. Usually great and good value. Friday we had steak and chips, hubby had the 'gourmet version. The steaks were as tough as old boots. If we hadn't had a steak knife there is No way we could have eaten them. Full of gristle which they would have seen left on the plates. Chips were kiddies size and for the first time ever no one asked if our food was OK. Diet coke tasted like dr pepper. Will go in again but never have a steak again. Sad to post this.
The Best Fish n Chips I’ve tasted in England. Food: 5/5
The Food Is excellent, menus are brilliantly prices, the staff are friendly and especially everything is clean, tidy & in ship shape order, you can eat, outside or inside, massive range of alcohol drinks and special beers, some for everyone if your over 21..... Lovely looking venue,, really really tasty food.... Everything is well presented, when there is s lot of people in there is quite a lot of noise, but mostly it's the regulars... Lovely looking flowers hang from the outside & as you woukd expect, there is lots of interesting pictures on the walls, especially as it's a Portsmouth Weather Spoons.... Pictures of famous people, such as Peter Sellers, who was born on the corner of castle Road, above the Chinese takeaway.. less than 10 minutes walk... The pub is close to Southsea shops, the sea front.... & most of the main amenities... The pub, is well worth a visit.. It has Free cloud WiFi access, multi refill hot drinks, The only draw back is the toilets, mens are quite smelly, the Gents cubicles really need looking after better & sometimes the smell of toilets not being flushed, came make a person really feel sick, so be careful, to breath through your slight open mouth.. Other than that it could do with toilet Brushes and a air fresheners... Through out.... Other than that, all is great.... Especially the refills on all teas / coffee.... Thats brilliant.... Not places charge extra for that... There is also games machines and big tvs also a big sound & lights system, for hires I believe.... Thank you for reading the reviews I have done, please take a look at the others, I have reviewed... Thank you.
There is no doubting spoons great beer and great value but this spoons is a bit lifeless. I think it maybe that Southsea has so many great and characterful pubs with reasonable prices. There is a distinct lack of atmos in here in comparison, depends what you want I suppose.Food: 4/5
One of the better J D Wetherspoon Pubs in Portsmouth. A decent atmosphere and pub was packed. Went in mid afternoon so we were able to get a table. One and only fault which we found out later they knew about! was that the Wetherspoon App did not work!! So after trying on several occasions to order we gave up. Had to go up to bar to order food. Huge queue.! Informed staff App was not working. Staff knew about this fact. So we think they should make public aware of this fact. Apparently it's not been working properly for sometime? Food was ok but could have been a bit warmer. Will visit again in future as used pub many times. Parking: Have to park in local side roads or Multi storey in Marmion Road behind Waitrose. Lord Palmerston is in a pedestrian only road. No vehicle access.
The Falkland Vets, and a bunch of widowers are being bullied by a member of staff at the Lord Palmerston. Several members of public have complained and stepped in to stop this happening but the pub manager bans them or does not listen to their complaints. The bully culture to the vulnerable at the Lord Palmy is sickening. Please do not support these vile members of staff and protect our veterans and vulnerable.
A member of our Party had never eaten an evening meal in a Wetherspoons before having been put off by a cold breakfast they'd been served at another venue. They were pleasantly surprised at the standard and quantity, so much so that we returned another night. Standard Wetherspoons venue, no pretty or spectacular building here. Toilet cubicles were large and clean. The food was usual standard Wetherspoons for the rest of us and we've had a few. Good food, hubby pleased the gammon and eggs are back on the menu, good value, it's usually the standard of service that sets each venue apart. Service here was very good, no complaints. However the lost star is for 2 things, sitting in the lower ceiling section it was far too hot and the WiFi reception was rubbish. Other than that everything else was great.
Couple of visits. It's clear weirdly that female members of staff always have basic manners but the males give up easily. Otherwise tables can be often cleared after an age.Service: 1/5
What an experience! For a fat lazy dog like me just to be able to sit at the table and order something and the waiter delivers it to the table. Well! It could make me feel like being part of our royal family. In sober reality, I give my huge thanks to pub, the very good service, the beautiful decor and ambiance. Thank you.
