We have visited The Fox and Hounds pub in Denmead twice for lunch, and our experiences have been mixed. During our first visit, we ordered the ribs and a cheeseburger. The ribs were fantastic, served as four massive pieces in a delectable sticky sauce. However, the cheeseburger was quite the opposite; it was undercooked, potentially cooked from frozen, resulting in an unpleasant jelly-like texture. It was inedible, but to their credit, we received a refund. We hope that others do not encounter the same issue. Our second visit saw us sticking to the ribs, which we had enjoyed previously. Unfortunately, there was an issue with consistency. This time, there were fewer ribs, and the sauce had changed to what seemed like a red wine sauce, lacking the sticky texture we previously enjoyed. While the ribs were still served with salad and fries, there were numerous raw spring onions scattered on top. This was not mentioned on the menu, and while I had no problem eating them, my wife dislikes raw onions and found this addition unappealing. The Fox and Hounds is a community-saved freehouse with significant investment. While we found the drinks satisfactory, the inconsistency and quality of the food left us disappointed, and we have decided not to return for meals. Overall, the atmosphere and drinks are commendable, but the food, unfortunately, fell short of expectations.
Came for a late Sunday lunch while the sun was out. Just missed the food service by about 15 minutes, the Owner Chris went out of his way to make sure we still got served some food even though we were late by no means had to do it. The food came out very quickly and was absolutely delicious, some of the best pub grub we have had! All of the staff are friendly and smiley. Really lovely pub to visit if you are in the area. Highly recommend!!
My wife Natalie and I went here for a meal for the first time since Chris & Aimee took over. We were absolutely blown away. Lovely welcome, great busy vibe in the pub. Service was excellent and food was exceptional! We had the halloumi fries and Pork belly to start, steak and chicken burrito for mains, then sticky toffee and chocolate fudge cake for desert. Gutted I missed out on the Toblerone cheesecake would love to see that as a regular. Anyway, not only were the portion sizes generous but the food was hot, tasty and just ticked all the boxes. Reasonably priced as well. Couldn’t ask for more. Lovely that Chris took the time to walk around and chat to customers. We won’t hesitate to go back and will be recommending it to others! Thanks to Chris, Aimee and the staff for a lovely anniversary meal - look forward to coming back again soon!
I really enjoyed my vegetarian burger, chips and coleslaw with halloumi cheese. The staff were excellent - friendly, helpful and chatty. The owner recognised my Mum from previous visits on his way over to the kitchen, and came over and chatted to us first. Very varied menu choice - different to other pubs, and freshly prepared. Would highly recommend and will visit again.
We visited this lovely pub on Monday evening 25/3/24 and were greeted by a very friendly lady behind the bar. She was very patient with us whilst we messed about with trying to decide what we wanted from the menu. A few changes along the way, our meals arrived and we weren't disappointed. Food was amazing, lots of empty plates to prove it. Food is very good value and it was obviously prepared by a very good chef ! Puddings were equally wonderful. Great value for money. Lovely cosy place, we will definitely visit again for our next girly get together .
I hadn't been to this place for YEARS until today. I remember it well as one of the places we used to meet up in our early twenties. Great pub back then. So I was pleased to hear from my mum that it was on good hands again and she had heard good things about it. We booked for lunch the next time I was able to pop down to visit. The layout has changed, but definitely for the better. It looks smart, bright and cosy too. The food was excellent. We had scampi, whitebait, calamari to start, a decent glass of sauvignon blanc, and a lovely Hampshire rump steak for main. The specials board was excellent and the daily menu was also replete with a good range of options. As a father of a child with coeliac disease, it was also really good to see the attention paid to gluten free options. The food arrived promptly, the atmosphere was nice and the service was excellent. Our waitress was likely on one of her first few shifts, and had to ask frequently for the answers to our questions, but she was efficient and always found out anything we asked. I might be wrong, but I think this pub was taken over by the local community. I do hope it is a success. It deserves it. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options.
We had to wait a while for our food the landlord did apologisebut it was worth it. The food was outstanding, all cooked freshly. We only had a starter and main course as we were too full up fo dessert.Food: 5/5
Just popped in for a quick drink during an evening bike ride. Very friendly staff, good beer and pub and outdoors was clean and tidy. Definitely be going back and staying longer next time.Service: 5/5
Superb food very friendly staff. Will definitely return, the specials board worth viewing, cozy and warm place to unwind with wholesome tasty food extremely well cooked.
I had lunch with a friend which was very nice. I'd go again and recommend.Food: 4/5
