The Indian Streatery

About

Grab & go lunch by day (11.30-3pm) sleek eatery by night (4pm-10pm).

Story

You may think Birmingham doesn’t need another ‘Indian’ restaurant. The team behind the successful ‘The Indian Rasoi’, Birmingham’s original street food scene concept, disagree. The Indian Streatery is a unique dual concept- a dynamic grab and go lunchtime café for the city’s busy professionals and a sleek, relaxed eatery by night.

The Indian Streatery is the brain child of a family of foodies, whose fondest memories have been created with home-cooked food, around the dining table at home. Food is an important part of our lives which is why our motto ‘It’s all about the food’ is the focus of the Indian Streatery- in fact the whole idea was dreamt up around the family dinner table!

Our menu is based around authentic Indian street food dishes complemented by our home favourites and some quirky extras. Every dish that comes out of our kitchen is clean, fresh and packed with flavour. We have an uncomplicated but unique menu and a selection of perfected accompanying cocktails.

We’re Birmingham’s original ‘Chaat Specialists’ serving our version of the traditional chaat to the city’s street food scene including the famous Digbeth Dining Club. We’ve worked the street food scene for three years and we recognised there is a huge support for fresh traditional food made with seasonal and local ingredients. At The Indian Streatery, we will be delivering the same ethos of freshness and traditions, by delivering classic dishes and also creating a fusion of exclusive new dishes, bridging the generations of Indian and British

We’ve extended our ethos to the bar too, working with local brewers and distilleries to celebrate our brilliant city. All of our beers are sourced from independent Birmingham breweries, and we’ve teamed up with local distilleries and bars to create our cocktail menu.

I recently dined at The Indian Streatery and found the experience to be a mixed bag. While the food was clearly aimed at non-Indian palates, offering a mild take on Indian street food, it ultimately lacked the authentic kick and heat that I expect. The service, however, was exceptional in every regard. The staff were attentive and friendly, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. The portion sizes were on the smaller side, which might leave some diners wanting more. Located in a nice part of the city, The Indian Streatery has good decor and a vibrant atmosphere. Despite these positives, the restaurant didn’t quite hit the mark for me, which is why I’m giving it 3 stars. It seems to be riding a wave of popularity, partly due to the visit by Prince William and Kate Middleton, but for someone seeking genuine Indian flavors, it falls a bit short in my opinion. Parking: It’s in the city centre so you would need to find one of the nearest parking lots.
The Indian Streatery offers an exceptional dining experience with its authentic Indian cuisine and inviting atmosphere. The crispy Paneer Fries and Ginger tea are perfectly spiced. The friendly staff ensures a pleasant visit. Highly recommended for a taste of India!Food: 5/5
Simply the very best food! Lovely friendly and helpful staff - three young ladies serving. A must visit. I'll be back for sure!Food: 5/5
Great smells and atmosphere in here, I would visit for this alone!! Very helpful staff, busy so would recommend booking in advance, we visited Thursday. Food was very nice, I had Pakora Burger and Masala Fries. Left a nice tangy aftertaste in the mouth.Food: 4/5
I recently dined at Indian Streatery in Birmingham, and it was a delightful experience! The flavors were authentically Indian, and the ambiance was vibrant. The highlight for me was their delicious mango lassi; it was perfectly creamy and refreshing. The service was prompt, and the staff was friendly. Overall, I highly recommend Indian Streatery for a flavorful culinary journey.
To begin, we regret to say that we won't be returning to Indian Streatley Ever! Our experience was disappointing, primarily due to the bland and delayed food. When we requested some extra spice in the food we ordered, we were informed that it wasn't possible as per their policy, and instead, green chillies were offered, despite our suggestion that it could easily be enhanced on the hob. Additionally, the spinach lamb dish lacked any spinach, we tried hard to taste it or even see it in the curry. Furthermore, the seating arrangement was uncomfortable, with tables placed too close together and a a very awkward dividing screen separating us to the diners adjacent . Overall, our experience fell far short of expectations, with even standard curry houses surpassing it in quality.
Review: The Indian Streatery, Birmingham Today, I visited The Indian Streatery in Birmingham, eager to experience its much-talked-about street food. Here's a detailed account of my visit: Ambience and Service: Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the staff and promptly offered a table for two. The ambience of the restaurant was pleasant, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for dining. Order Details: We ordered the following dishes:Pani Puri £4.95Tikki Chaat £6.95Bhel Puri £5.95 Additionally, a 10% service tax was applied to the bill. I specifically requested that all the dishes be made spicy. Food Experience: Pani Puri: The Pani Puri was the first dish served. Unfortunately, it was quite a letdown. Only four puris were provided, and they were soggy, suggesting they had been reheated, possibly in a microwave or oven. They lacked salt and taste but filled with a good amount of stuffing. The spicy water was served in short glasses which was less in quantity, and it was neither cold nor adequately salted, tastes bland. Overall, it was a disappointing start to the meal. Tikki Chaat: Next, we tried the Tikki Chaat. The dish consisted of just a single portion of Tikki , topped with namkeen, onion, chickpeas, tamarind sauce and dash of yogurt. While the dish was served hot, it failed to deliver the expected burst of flavors. A good Tikki Chaat should be an explosion of tastes and textures, but this one was underwhelming. I managed to finish it, but it did not meet my expectations. Bhel Puri: The final dish was Bhel Puri, a mixture of Indian savory namkeen, puffed rice, onion, and chili flakes, all served on a poppadum and drenched in tamarind sauce. Although it looked appealing, the Bhel Puri was soggy and too sweet due to an excessive amount of sauce. It lacked the desired spiciness, and the flavors were not well balanced. I could not finish it and left most of it uneaten. Conclusion: The Indian Streatery needs to put more effort into refining their dishes to make them more authentic and delicious. The recipes need to be perfected to ensure customers get a genuine taste of Indian street food. While I only tried a few items from their menu, and there may be better options available, my experience was disappointing. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback constructively and makes the necessary improvements. I wish them good luck and look forward to experiencing the difference on my next visit. Overall score 5/10 Thanks
Enjoyed a different type of lunch. Kind of combo. Home style chicken curry plus a roti coz I knew the combo wouldn’t be enough for Indian stomach . Loved the warm food and good service by sushanFood: 5/5
I visited on a Saturday evening. Although it was busy I took a chance and walked in as a solo diner. I was asked to wait five minutes, which I was happy to do. I was sat between two parties but with ample room not to feel squashed. The waiter made a few recommendations from the menu that I was happy to take. They turned out to be excellent choices. He also suggested a different beer to the one I chose, I preferred my choice this time. A big thanks must go to the service staff, during my time there each and everyone asked how I was enjoying my evening without appearing as if it was their duty, they genuinely cared. All in all a great spot. Definitely a place to visit next time I’m in Birmingham.
Such a great experience, I highly recommend going there. The service was very welcoming and helpful in picking which meals/drinks to combine. The food really felt home-made and was packed with flavours. The decoration and overall atmosphere was good. I recommend the first mocktail with vanilla, and for food take your pick, some dishes are similar to Mediterranean ones aubergines and minced meat and there's a great variety of bread. Prices are also good
