The Pies are a must. In particular, the Steak and Ale was superb. We started with Landlord’s platter, the duck croquettes were well above standard, the peppers and chorizo along with the peppers were plenty for two. The drinks are well prepared and the options are really good quality of selections are decent. For a first meal in London and to get a taste of the city and London, this is a win.
This is a great pub if you want a good vibe. The staff is really nice and the place is lively. Gave it a low rating because I wasn’t a massive fan of the food. I got the chicken and chorizo: chorizo was excellent, and the broccoli solid… but I found the chicken to be really dry and the potatoes were slightly raw.Food: 3/5
We did not eat here. Just popped in for a drink and catch the end of the euro cup match. The bar tender was super friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is awesome. Such an old building with so much history! Not sure it would be somewhere I would sit down for a meal...but for a pint, any day!Service: 5/5
Fantastic food, great atmosphere and superb staff. Excellent end to our evening. We were even able to watch the Spain Vs France game.Food: 5/5
Amazing old pub, wonderful atmosphere, and centuries of history. There's even good light, due to some clever extension work.Food: 4/5
We had a great meal here with a good Nicholson's ale! My fish and chips was a very generous portion, including scampi and really tasty chips. My friend's steak and ale pie was delicious. I'd definitely eat here again.Food: 5/5
The Hoop and Grapes is worth a visit if you want that lovely feeling of an older pub. With its moody, comfortable lighting and close interior it feels snug and welcoming. The service was quite good and very friendly. Though it was a busy night, the food didn’t take long to come out either and arrived hot and fresh. The food was almost nearly excellent. My meal of the salmon cakes was outstanding and really delicious. The cakes were flavorful and the sauce with them was tasty. The potatoes were roasted perfectly and the salad offered a nice balance with different textures and flavors. The desserts could be improved upon, and should be, as they didn’t match the quality of the dinner. The brownie and ice cream and the caramel biscuit torte weren’t particularly remarkable still solidly good and they are the reason I gave the food a 4/5 stars. I wish Google would let me do half points! The meal was a 5 and the dessert was a 4, so really it should be a 4.5 technically. Still it is definitely worth a visit and hopefully you will enjoy the ambience and the food as much as I did.
Great atmosphere on a Tuesday night. Had a walk in table free at 6:30 but got busier after that. Most people were just having drinks so provided a good atmosphere all the time. Food was top quality pub style. The pies are the star of the show, the Guinness was kept well.Food: 5/5
Amazing pub! I’ve been coming here for seven years and it never fails to disappoint. It is a historic building and has maintained plenty of the original features while still offering contemporary twist. Most of the food menu is amazing, especially the pies. But most of all, the greatest thing about the Hoop and Grapes is the staff. Every single time I’ve been here I’m greeted with a friendly face and great banter. Cheers!
Sunday night piano man singing Tina Turner, The Killers, Billy Joel and many other classics. I'm curious what other live music they have. I've always loved hearing performers and musicians. It's a very old pub which is a fun place to hang out. The chairs weren't amazingly cosy, but the staff were nice, even at the end of a long shift. I'd come back again.
