We stayed here for the Christmas break, arriving Christmas Eve and departing Boxing Day. In short it was a very underwhelming experience, mainly let down by the food and also the dismissive response from the manager when I followed up with him via email.nI am vegetarian and found the food a complete let down. I appreciate its subjective, but Christmas lunch is so traditional why meddle?! A veg wellington with kale - but not another vegetable in sight. I had to request some roast potatoes that the waitress kindly got for me. However the buffet that night vegetarians weren't even considered. Considering we paid £1K for the 2 night break it was so poor. When I emailed the hotel after our stay, the manager responded saying 'Beth on Reception hadn't highlighted any dietary needs'. This is appalling on several accounts, one the manager is passing off the responsibility to one of his team and secondly, the hotel knew I was vegetarian as I had to pre order. Even if they were unsure, they never reached out to check which they could have done.nThe hotel lacked ambience on Xmas day, we sat in the lounge on our own and not one member of staff came to ask if we'd like any drinks.nUp on checkout, we were charged a random 'gratuity' on that the receptionist couldn't explain and so took it off - so that was a mystery, just a good job I always double check the charges.nAs I say it was a completely underwhelming experience which cost a lot of money.
What a perfect stay we had. Perfectly located between Winchester and Salisbury in the lovely little town of Stockbridge. Our room, and bathroom were recently renovated and really comfortable . We had a delicious evening meal in the bar and a good breakfast the next morning. A huge thanks to the staff for looking after us so warmly. Highly recommend this hotel.
As others have mentioned, the hotel has been refurbished since we last visited. The service was excellent and has a cosy ambiance.nnHowever we found the portion sizes on the restaurant menu very small, particularly my tagliatelle which was more starter size, but at £19 is very much a main course price. It was gone in a few mouthfuls. Lovely presentation but just needed more food on the plate. On the evening we visited, mains ranged from £17 to £38. Some did not come with veg, so you would need to add on a side order or two as well!nIf you are hungry, go for the burger on the bar menu which my son did enjoy and was certainly more value for money as fries are included.nOh and do watch out for the 12.5% service charge which is automatically added to your bill, but can be removed upon request.
We had a really nice stay here.nWe won a night, free to stay in the double room with breakfast too and it was lovely. Everyone was very accommodating!nnThe car park is just to the left by the church, and isn’t very well signposted so just follow the little road behind - but there is also a lot of free car parking on the road near it which is really ideal.nnThe room was lovely and very comfy. TV was nice too and we synced with our phone, and they had amenities in the room and bathroom which were nice.nnThe garden looked lovely, as did the bar and lounge though we didn’t actually go there.nnThe breakfast in the morning was great - highly recommend. We had the veggie breakfast and it was delicious. Breakfast was until 9.45am for those staying. Also, the staff were so lovely, they have to be commended:nnWould definitely recommend. It’s a nice area.
Dined in the excellent restaurant...Service was excellent, menu very good and perfectly cooked presented. Have stayed in the hotel a number of times, the standard has picked up over the years and is now a very good hotel. Location is great for tourism. Easy drive to a number of attractions, e.g. Beaulieu, Hawk Conservancy, Hilliers.
