Popped in for a lunch hour stop for the 1st time. Despite the pub being pretty empty, and us ordering our food quickly - 35 minutes later we had to chase the staff to find out where our food was (hot sandwiches & Chips for 3 people!). We ended up with it being presented in doggy bags straight out of the kitchen so we could get back to work in time. A couple of us also bought some cakeaway from there too - No discount was offered to compensate our wait. All in all, extremely disappointing.

Such a lovely reception from Nicki n her team!!! Nicki is such a vibrant and tentative host and went out of her way to make sure we were happy and accommodated us with our vegetarian needs and gave us such a warm welcome and a carefree relaxed experience! Since we have visited many times! Hoping Nicki had a well deserved holiday but look forward to seeing her soon!!!

Owned by Manchester brewer, Joseph Holt, this current building from the 1960s replaced a much older pub from the late 1800s. Following a recent refurb, this is a gleaming, airy, well-lit local, successfully marrying the needs of the drinker with those of the diner. The vault and lounge are combined, plus a conservatory has been constructed to the Wilmslow Road side. The dining area is at the back of the semi-open plan lounge where light oak wainscoting gives a classy feel to it. There’s also a pizza/deli/ice cream counter as you enter. Built into the front of the building is a covered veranda which pioneered the provision of external smoking areas even before the legislation was introduced. On the Finney Lane side there is still part of the pub that might be described as a vault area, so drinkers are very much welcome.

Staff our very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere and decor a great for a local family pub. Unfortunately the food quality and qty keeps deteriorating . 2 years ago the gourmet burgers were served on a piece of slate with the chips in a small fryer basket with a side salad. This has become more basic until last week I received my burger on a huge oval old plate with a few over done chips. The chips used to be hand cut thick chips and they now appear to be basic frozen chips. I received no side salad and the burger was overdone. One thing I will add is that I don’t eat burgers anywhere else but the griffin as usually they are good quality meet.
