We went this evening for Sunday dinner, we checked before hand they were still serving and was told they were. Ordered 1 roast beef, 1 Childs roast beef and a nut roast. A few minutes later the lovely waitress only good thing about our visit! said they didn’t have any nut roast left, ok, what’s the alternative? Veggie sausages with the roast, plant burger or veggie lasagne, ah ok, I don’t want to cook but fancy a roast, I’ll have the veggie sausages. Three plates turned up, swede and carrot mash had been smeared over the bottom of the plate ‍ my son doesn’t like swede and carrot mash! the roast potatoes were tiny, the Yorkshire pudding was so over cooked you could’ve smashed a window with it, the gravy was lumpy and in a tiny jug, the type you have with afternoon tea, and the shared bowl of veg that arrived would only of fed 2 not very hungry people plus, it was luke warm. My husband asked for more veg and was told they’d ran out by a now very embarrassed waitress. Needless to say we didn’t pay and won’t be returning. It’s such a shame, we live really close by and used to visit the pub at least 4-5 times a month for food. This is the second bad experience we’ve had there.
My daughter and son in law had there wedding reception at The George Inn on 13th August 2022. We had meal for 11 of us on the Friday night, the food was wonderful and staff very helpful. The food for the reception was out of this world, couldn't ask for better. The reception room and staff were great. Would recommend the hotel/pub. Can't go wrong. Many thanks to the cook and bar staff for your hard work to make the afternoon and evening go without any problems.
Sunday lunch was a massive disappointment. Had roast beef but the portion of meat was miniscule and a tiny gravy pot. None of the servers returned to ask if it was ok so no chance to order extra gravy. Veg and yorkshire pudding were ok. Dessert followed similar trend. Sticky toffee pudding was about 40mm square. Barely a mouthful. Staff need customer service training and chef needs to look at their portion sizes Will not return
Lovely stay at the Geroge, staff were so helpful! Room was a good size. Very clean, shower was fab! Food was amazing! It's outside the city centre but was local to where I needed to be. Extremely convenient location. Bus stop right outside. Would definitely stay again.Rooms: 5/5
Our 2 night stay was great. The room was fresh and clean, had everything we needed and a REALLY comfortable bed. Thanks to the staff for a delicious breakfast served with a smile! Would definitely come back if we were in the area again. Significantly cheaper than other hotels nearby.Rooms: 5/5
We've eaten there quite a few times recently but it's never busy, even on a Sunday lunchtime, and it's become a joke how often I order something that's then not currently available. The kitchen should talk to the staff! The service is great, but the food is always overcooked and the yorkshires frequently inedible. I've tried most things on the menu to give the place a fair try, but changing some of it for other options and not overcooking everything would definitely get us and I'm sure others back in.
My partner and I stayed a Friday night before an event the following day. After a long drive we were looking forward to checking in, having a shower and going for dinner with a few friends that were staying also. The first issue we ran into was check in. They were training new staff on the night our visit and the young girl behind the counter wasn't sure on how to book us in, which is understandable. She called who we believed to be a manager to come see to us but unfortunately, as she was running around like a headless chicken which was the same all night, and we weren't seen too for between 10/15 minutes. After being seen too, we ordered breakfast, told useful Information and were shown our room. The room was very pleasant. We were very happy with the room except for being above the staircase we lost a very good portion of the floor space. This was the only concern with the room before the live music started. Bed was comfortable, newer TV with good access to viewing what we wanted and very clean all around. Bathroom was also very clean with a great size shower. We then met our friends and went downstairs for a few drinks and food. There was a good choice of drinks at reasonable prices. There was a limited choice of food, but it was enough for the size of venue. We had a mixed experience with food. Three of us had hanging kebabs, two chicken and one beef, which were very nice. I don't feel there was a need to have them hanging, as there wasn't much space on the tables and the skewer and stand would take a lot of space after we put the meat on our plates. Two others had fish which at first glance looked good, but unfortunately both had rather large part of very overcooked and unedible food. We then moved to desert. We were told that one of the items wasn't available and was replaced with another item. Sadly the item that wasn't there was the best on the list. Some of us swapped to then be told that the cream choice wasn't available either, making a few of my friends decide on skipping desert completely. Meanwhile, the manager still ran around like 100m sprinter. At one point they had run out of a draught drink and a glass was smashed over the top of it because of the rushing around. We also had someone who wasn't staying that wanted to join us for breakfast, and it took him a fairly long amount of time to get that ordered, which from we could see was just writing it on a piece of paper. We had not long finished food and the live music we were told it was one man with an acoustic guitar started. Boy, were we in for a shock! He set up in the corner of the room behind us and the music was so loud we actually had to move into the other room so carry on with conversations. The music was unbearably loud for the size of the venue to the point where after we had finished with our evening and headed back upstairs, we couldn't get to sleep. Thankfully he stopped at around 11 and we were able to get some much needed rest.
Stayed at The George for two nights as we were attending a wedding up the road. Really friendly staff who gave us such a warm welcome and showed us to our room. The room itself was lovely. Good size bedroom and bathroom with a decent shower. Breakfast was very good and they have Rattler Cider. Would definitely recommend.Rooms: 5/5
We used to eat here regularly until it changed hands a few years ago. We had one meal and didn't go back , until recently. It has changed hands again and ditched the predominantly burger menu. We have now been twice and it's a lovely menu with good food and service. Will be back.
Lovely clean and newly refurbed double room. I didn't get back til late so can't speak to the sound levels from the pub below but the breakfast was a huge and satisfying portion that was freshly cooked and not kept under a light bulb. Would stay here again!
