I wish I could give 3.5/5. The previous chef was incredible, this new one was not as exciting. Only 4 tables on a Friday night. Service was good but quite quiet and I’m not sold on the food. Duck was fine, but way more veg than needed. Small portions were not filling but it wasn’t overly expensive.
Dog friendly pub. Great little place that we stop for dinner on our way down to st iv. Food were great using the local ingredients and support the community, the staff are excellent. Recommended if you have a dog as their garden are also pretty big.
On the whole the food at the 5 Bells is good but not amazing. The dishes are very well, sometimes excellently, presented but lack a wow factor in taste - though they are very good value at the price point. The desserts are amazing which speaks to the herratige of the head chef Charlotte Vincent's Michelin star background. On the whole it's a cut above your average gastro pub.
Spacious and comfortable and great food with a simple, uncomplicated menu all in a beautiful old cottage. Also the staff were very polite and efficient.
Really nice decent food service was great just a shame one dish came out cold but will definitely be going back if I can
What a very good experience... Lovely country pub, great staff and the food was excellent, scotch duck egg with sweet and sour picalilly .. beautiful, Hake with a rapeseed pomme puree... Excellent and to finish apple choux. Definitely be going back even if it is a bit off the beaten track
We were inspired to come here after seeing their head chef Charlotte on "Great British Menu" as her food looked lovely. The inn is cosy inside but you can also eat in their lovely garden, with beautiful views of open countryside. To get here you have to drive through several very narrow & windy country lanes with only a few passing places so you need to go along cautiously. Once you eventually reach the inn, they have a nice spacious car park. We went for Sunday lunch & there is a set menu which costs £28 for 2 courses or £35 for 3. I recommend the puddings especially as ours were both lovely. They offer a wide selection of locally produced soft drinks & an extensive wine list. They use milk from a nearby local farm in their cooking & hot beverages. All of the staff were very friendly & attentive.
Great meal with our relatives last night at 5 Bells Wickham Food was excellent. Well prepared and presented. All meals were very tasty and most enjoyable Joe was a great server and menu taker. Such a friendly polite young man who conversed well with us and made us smile Lovely clean and welcoming pub/ restaurant. Barman so pleasant and friendly and was so helpful and knowledgeable regarding his beer All in all a truly excellent visit and cannot wait to return Thank you
My family and I only just discovered the Five Bells this year, but it has quickly become a firm favourite. I have particularly enjoyed the fish dishes - especially the plaice and the wonderful beetroot starter. My son and I recently had to dine without my husband and we enjoyed a roast and fish together with beautifully cooked vegetables. The staff are welcoming, accommodating and thoughtful, so I cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you to all at the Five Bells.
Best roast dinner I’ve eaten. Taste, quality and service all 5 stars. Although the food is incredible, the atmosphere is relaxed and the environment is comfortable with a honest and humble pub feel, which to me, is perfect. Look forward to returning one day soon! Thanks to the Five Bells team.
