5 of us went on a Tuesday night for the quiz. The quiz was great. Liked the format and the way is was run. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the food we had. It was awful. I got the mixed grill. Ended up leaving a lot of it. The chicken, to me, didn’t appear to have been fully cooked. After one bite I left it. The sausages were tough. The skins rock hard. Probably left under the heat and had dried out. Chips were cold and frozen, not fresh. Wasn’t keen on the gammon either. Even the pineapple was terrible. Very warm and dry. Again like it had been left under the grill or heat lamp. The egg was pretty good and hot so probably had been freshly cooked. And the rump steak wasn’t that bad. Cooked medium rare as ordered and one of the few things on the plate I finished.nMy fellow diners had issues with their meals as well. As for the service one of my colleagues waited best part of an hour for her meal. Another ordered ice cream for dessert and had to go twice to the bar to chase it up as it took so long to be served. For ice cream?nAnd God knows what they clean their tables with. You couldn’t put your hands or elbows on them as they would have stuck. Since Covid I always carry wipes with me. A table had been booked beforehand but the first table we were shown to was totally unsuitable for a party of five. I noticed it was wet. It had been wiped down. Wiped down but certainly not cleaned as I went over and my wipe and dry tissue were filthy. We moved tables to be nearer to the guy running the quiz and this table was also so sticky.nI’ve eaten at Hungry Horse venues before. I’ve eaten here before. But this venue seems to have gone considerably downhill. You don’t go to a Hungry Horse pub expecting fabulous cuisine. But you do expect and should get reasonably decent food at an affordable price. However, the food on this visit was awful. We would probably go to the quiz again. We enjoyed that but I will definitely not be eating here again if and when we return.
Went on Fathers Day. Dad had a sirloin steak medium rare but unfortunately it was overcooked and tough. My sister had cheese macaroni which was lovely. Her husband had toasted cheese which he liked. My fiance had steak pie which he enjoyed. Unfortunately I had beef lasagne which was very dried up and burnt. Photo below. I mentioned this and was given another one which was the same. Food came quickly and was nice and hot but sadly cannot give 5 stars because 2 dishes were not well cooked. Nice car park. Lovely hanging baskets of flowers outside. Warm welcoming atmosphere. Spent under £10 four dishes. Over £10 one dish.
A quick review for me, but working away in the area and wanted to try somewhere new for evening meal and a quick drink - so popped in to the Fernhurst.nnHere today on Wednesday so had the curry and pint offer. I added a naan to it on top - perfect addition to curry! Had the Chicken Jalcrazy. It was awesome. Loved every bit of it.nnThe guy serving me was friendly, helpful and great service.nnDrink was cold, fresh and just what needed after a busy day.nnCouple of points of general improvement, didn't affect my visit in any way but would be great if they can be looked at:nn1. The numbers aren't on all the tables. Explained where was at the bar and it was fine, but could be a problem if ordered in the app.nn2. Added my naan easy enough and was tasty! But I didn't see these additions on the menu or in the app. Typically wouldn't eat everything on a supersize one - so could be useful if they could put the smaller items on the menu to see what can be added.nnKeep it up. 5* review thanks.
ONLY good thing was the atmosphere as it was nice and relaxed.nnService appallingnWent out for a family meal and all meals came separate when other family members had finished.nFood undercooked i.e chicken and steak asked for steak medium to well done and it was bluenAsked for normal chips one as one family member had allergies..
Service with a smile, prompt and professional. A nice recommendation from the team member. Main dishes could have been hotter but still tasty and we'll definitely be coming back. Good value for money and a nice friendly atmosphere.
