Great example of engineering. The boat trip is quite expensive but worth it to say you have been on the wheel. Cafeteria has a good selection but is quite pricey. Lovely setting with nice walks and plenty to do for the children. Well worth a visit, will probably go back.

Although it is quite a marvelous engineering feat, the price of riding the wheel is extremely pricey. You head up the wheel have a quick canal ride, then turn around and come back down. For what it is, its not worth the price. Its actually more entertaining watching it from the visitors centre and walking the canal.

Very impressive erection and good visitors Center . Quite a bit of stuff for the kids. The wheel is a mechanical marvel but everything happens at the speed of a Canal holiday so not high octane. Worth a visit though.

Amazing feat of engineering & impressive to look at. I only gave 3 stars because paid for the boat ride which really was a waste of time. It took an hour to basically go up on the wheels gondala and ride a boat 100m up a canal & back. While the guide was entertaining,, You're better off just walking around the wheel, reading the plaques & watching it in action, you will see much more of how it works.

Interesting place to see. I saw this lock on YouTube several years ago and wanted to see it if we ever got the chance. So on our trip to Scotland we made a small detour to check it out. Didn't want to spend the time taking the boat but did watch it in action and walked the canal to the upper old lock. See it if you can.
