Kinda hard to see inside a big cage. The Elfin Oak of Kensington Gardens is a captivating sight, a century-old tree stump transformed into a fairy-tale world. Carved by Ivor Innes, it depicts a lively scene of elves, fairies, and animals, each with their own story. This magical menagerie has charmed visitors since the 1920s, offering a glimpse into an enchanted realm. It's a cultural treasure, inspiring artists and delighting children. The Elfin Oak stands as a unique monument to imagination, a whimsical blend of nature and artistry, nestled in the tranquility of one of London's most beloved parks.
The Elfin Oak. Came across this on a walk in the park. A surprise to see and love the little figures. Always a pleasure to experience little treasures like this that was not part of your visiting list.
The Elfin Oak is a delight to find in the busy park. It doesn’t take long to look at but sets up the kids play time nicely next door. There’s a nice coffee shop to hand to help destress. The mass of wire and fencing does make it difficult to take a photo and view properly. Maybe someone could make a more sympathetic screen that matches the theme!
The Elfin Oak is the stump of a 900 year old oak tree decorated with figurines of fantasy creatures. It's a very nice find and worth viewing if you're visiting the gardens.
Fantastic coffe and breakfast. I fo always start my visits to London here
A unique creation, easily missed but worth seeingVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
I get that the tree has to be protected but the iron railings setting is both harsh and uncompromising - this is not a child friendly sculpture but perhaps it should be. I think that if the London Mayor could be persuaded to fund a more robust, all weather replica that children could actually touch then maybe move this magnificent one under cover, maybe in the British Museum, then that would be a great idea. Otherwise it seems so sad behind bars.
Great landmark for all the family to enjoy. It doesn't take long to see it but it's well worth showing to the children.
Very magical place, could almost hear the elfin village around me.
I was surprised to see something so nice and folk-story like in Hyde Park. Its lovely.
