Regular attender here as it's close to my parents'. On busy nights they spill over into an upstairs room for food and the service can slow down. Food generally good quality grub though and we particularly enjoyed fish night the last Friday we were in. Can also guarantee some good local beers on tap as well as a decent gin selection.

Such a cosy pub, it has a great atmosphere with a roaring fire and fairy lights. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is great! Good portion sizes, a large menu with a specials board and lunch time sandwich menu too. Well worth a stop if you are in the area - try the craft beer on tap.

Lovely atmospheric old fashioned pub. Good range of well kept cask ales pulled properly. Great selection of food from the menu and daily specials, at reasonable prices. Well prepared quality meals. Staff are welcoming, helpful and friendly. I mailed a request to book a table for lunch, got a prompt reply and table was available when we arrived. I always pay a visit when in Staveley and the pub never disappoints. Highly recommended.

Fabulous large cosy rooms . Great pub atmosphere with real fire . Good food. Fantastic breakfast in good breakfast room setting with another cosy fire . Staff very friendly and helpful . Would recommend this place . My only criticism on a personal level is that the choice of real ale was disappointing . There was no good old fashioned session beer they were either blonde types or very strong dark ones . The local Hawkshead beer or Coniston Bluebird or Jennings bitter etc are all great session beers . But all in all a great pub .

Lots of great beers, with the odd scruffy guest ale. Plus hearty pub grub, lots not to like. Perhaps Tuesday evening - quiz night - is the weekday highlight time to visit?
