Went for an impromptu Sunday roast when the weather was nice. Anything that's outside and up one level in the tiered garden is basically cleaned. Table dirty, with glass stains from at least the previous 3-4 dining parties. Food arriving without cutlery, 2 bar staff walking side by side to deliver one pint of beer. Something as simple as a member of staff to clean and take orders from the top tier garden could increase sales dramatically. Also roast came with about 10ml of gravy max.
Met a relative in the area, we chose The Crown to go eat at, definitely a good choice. Enjoyed the food and had some decent beers on tap. May never be over this way again but would highly recommend to anyone going that way as a stop off point.
Our first visit to the Crown. It has a youthful vibe probably a bit quieter on the Thurs night we visited. Outdoor dining area under canopies and heaters looked great but it was not great June weather when we visited. Service was friendly, a bit slow at first. Starter of whipped feta and tapenade with crostade and crudités we shared was a nice appetiser. Enjoyed the Languedoc Carignan blend red by the glass. My wife said her wood fire cooked lasagne with focaccia and salad was delicious. Plenty for her but the lasagne portion was not large. The rotisserie chicken was tasty though the Piri Piri sauce came fridge cold in a small bowl rather than warm on the chicken. I left it. Good to have watercress as a salad, I love it. All reasonably priced by today's post COVID, food inflation standards.
Booked for a special occasion. Was greeted with friendly welcome and taken to our seat. 2 adults and a child. Food was a little expensive but nice country pub so happy to pay. Main meal came out quickly and was very very tasty. Would love to know what they do to the carrots, they were something else! Whole family enjoyed main dinner. Unfortunately after the main course is where we was let down. Our waitress seemed to disappear I think end of shift but we was left waiting a very long time for dessert, eventually as had a 3 year old with me had to get up and ask at the bar. But once ordered the dessert came over quickly, seemed like they only had 1 person serving the meals. It was not very busy in the pub. Pub does allow dogs to roam not a dog person so a little put off, but I understand it's a traditional country pub Anyways, great food, would eat again. Just feel needs more staff to be perfect.
Absolutely fabulous roast dinner! We had to ask the chefs names as the roast was out of this world. A massive complaints to Q & Mo. We will definitely be back. Service was amazing, Amy and the lady working alongside her such friendly lovely staff. So welcoming. Me and my friend are so happy with coming to The Crown. Keep up the good work. Fantastic x Parking: Wide range of parking Kid-friendliness: Plenty of room and I saw a children’s play area in the garden. Wheelchair accessibility: The staff catering for a wheel chair user as we was here at the time a wheel chair came in.
Very cute country pub we stopped by after a pub walk! We only ordered sandwiches off the lunch menu but they were very good, along with the fries and potato salad. Definitely hoping to sit in the nice beer garden on a sunnier day!Food: 4/5
I've become disappointed with the lack of service and food taking too long to arrive. Seems to be getting worse, staff seem interested and chef's are slow. Ordered 3 sandwiches and chips. They refused to take the orders as the kitchen was having issues. After 45 minutes the took the order, another hour and only the sandwiches turned up. To their credit they refunded the chips and one drink but not good guys. It was lunchtime on a weekday and it was not busy and to be fair this is not the first time this has happened.
Two young girls working in the garden clung to each other’s sides, saw one take a chip out of a customers bowl and eat it on her way to delivering it to the table. Enjoyed a cold drink in a very nice garden though.Food: 4/5
Waited 20 minutes tonight for what we assume was the new member of staff to make a mocktail. I am pregnant and was so excited to see on their summer drinks menu that has been placed on every table, that no alcoholic cocktails are being served. However one by one we were informed that there are none of these available each time waiting 5 mins for the staff member to find someone to ask whether they could do the drink and how to make the drink. Eventually we were told they could make one drink that was more expensive but half the ingredients were missing. They had one other guy serving who was really reluctant to help the new staff member. Instead of just helping the new guy and then allowing him to make drinks for other and get the qué down, he just let him struggle. Safe to say we left after that one drink. We also went to have food and whilst we had waited that 20 minutes, were told that no food is being served. So understaffed for a sunny weekend. We have been here before and loved it. Will think twice next time.
I’ve eaten here a couple of times late last year and I’d happily eat there again. The food is good, it’s a little bit more contemporary and adventurous than many country pubs but I wouldn’t quite call it a gastropub. Service has always been very good, table service especially for our visit mid December. My favourite feature of this pub though is the vast multi level beer garden, fantastic in the summer with lots of different areas to sit, great for a big group, but still manages to offer a few cosy corners too. Great spot for warm evening drinks. Wheelchair accessibility: Access to the bar and inside seating good, some areas of the outdoor garden are terraced so may be harder to access though there is ample ground level seating outside.
