Been going here since I was very little and have seen it go through a number of owners!
However the people that have it now have spent a lot of money and time on transforming the place that it really needed. The food is fantastic and most recently was there on a work lunch and really enjoyed the range and quality of food.
Range of drinks on offer to suit every budget and a cosy bar and nice atmosphere. This is the best I've seen the Cross Inn for many years and was just what the village needed. Highly recommend!

For anyone who thinks this place is so great; this is how the new management recently treated one of their neighbours: me. I'm outraged by the attitude this place has shown me and the trouble they have caused me when all I was trying to do was be nice to them. I want people to know this now, and to know my side of the story which I imagine most people who know something about it are fairly ignorant about. They not only barred me over practically nothing, but they turned my life upside down through sheer spite and slandered my name all across the village and have ruined my life; over nothing. Here is an abridged version of what happened, upfront and honest (unlike they have been) which I was not even granted the courtesy of saying or having said once in court. I have a more detailed version of events on their facebook page (follow the link to my homepage) but posting links is not allowed, so in less than 4k characters:
The Cross Inn called the police on me twice in November 2016 over nothing. Not entirely nothing, but nothing that justified police involvement in any way. I was rude to the staff one night, and stormed out in the huff. I'm not proud of it and I tried to apologise and make the peace with them but they threw it back in my face and then lied to the police. They told the police I threatened them when in reality I was only trying to be a good neighbour, to be nice to them and make the peace with them.
I was arrested for nothing, detained and then charged with breach of the peace and resisting arrest. My life was turned upside down, I had difficulty to getting to court 40 miles away, and I didn't read the witness statements from the management of The Cross Inn until the THIRD hearing.
The Cross Inn LIED in their witness statements, and embelished truths as did the police, and I was forced to take a plea bargain and I now have a criminal record for nothing, because The Cross Inn couldn't just act like reasonable, decent human beings towards one of their customers who was off with them on ONE OCCASION and who is their neighbour and who tried his best to make the peace with them afterwards and offered several humble apologies.
I also tried to make the peace with them after I took the plea bargain and the bail conditions were lifted, and they weren't interested either.
All over nothing, and I suspect an innocent comment I made that was taken the wrong way. I don't know because they still to this day have refused to talk with me about it, or allow me to explain. Offence was taken where none was intended, an over reaction that has led to a good man (me) being branded with a reputation he does not deserve.
I have suffered stress, anxiety and depression over this ever since and have to watch people coming and going there every day from my window, my neighbours sitting outside drinking a beer in the summer and I can't join them, and I have to suffer noise and anti-social behaviour during the weekends and when they have events. They put bands on in their car park with loud PA systems and don't give me any warning, let alone invite me to join the party while I have to suffer the noise. Instead I am barred for life, and ostracised from local social activites, all because the management couldn't just be reasonable over an incident that was barely worth raising an eyebrow over.
I did not move here for this, nor wanted any of it. I moved here to be a good neighbour and be supportive to my local community. And while The Cross Inn and the police and the so called justice system have been busy ruining my life I've spent a great deal of my time helping elderly neighbours with gardening, dog walking, shopping when unable to get to town. I have volunteered for the local Resilience group and I still help the local PVEG group with their flower beds.
So ask yourself this. What kind of place treats good people like myself who live practically next door so terribly, over a one time minor verbal conflict with the staff?
I've given up trying to mend relations with the place a long time ago, I hold nothing but contempt for the lot of them.

Stopped off for lunch with the kids. Warm greeting, really friendly helpful staff. Great menu. I had the fried goats cheese with house chutney to start. The batter was really light and the balance of flavours and textures worked very well. I followed that with the fish pie which was topped with puff pastry rather than mash. The selection and quantity of fish in the pie was good. A little over seasoned for my taste but I still finished it all. We finished with some of their tray bakes that we ended up having to take home half of, as even my little dustbins couldn't finish them off. All in all, highly recommended.
