The Carter’s menu was so delicious, I need to come back for the full menu I was there for a roast. Even though this place is right in the center of camberwell, it’s a bit off the main road so it was a nice chill spot for a Sunday! The staff were super friendly and fun. For starters try the panisse made of chickpeas, I didn’t want to share it even though it’s a big portion!
This pub has a lovely vibe and atmosphere, seating inside and outside tucked in round the corner of the main road in Camberwell. Was fully booked for Sunday roast so definitely recommend booking if you want to dine here. The staff are friendly and welcoming and initially it was a good experience but the food took ages to arrive and wasn’t piping hot when we got it. Menu online had a lamb option but the menu didn’t have lamb when we got there. It was slightly overpriced and wasn’t the best experience. Had a beef roast and the meat was very pink but not tender, was hard to cut through and chew. Roast potatoes were lovely though and so was the Yorkshire pudding. Gravy was a bit on the stingy side. Overall wasn’t that impressed for the price, had to chase the waiter a few times for our order. We waited about 50 mins to be served after ordering and ordered an extra side that came about 15 mins after our main meal. Wanted to stay for a dessert but didn’t have time. Not sure if it was just a slightly off day for them. The food was all a little underwhelming but it is still a nice pub to go for drinks!
I came here for dinner and drinks with a group of friends recently. To be honest we were completely blown away. It's a beautiful pub with a great atmosphere. We were welcomed with a smile as soon as we arrived, and the service was high quality and attentive throughout the evening, The food was astounding - we weren't necessarily expecting anything particularly special from a pub, but we were so impressed with the quality and value. Would highly recommend!
Have been to the Crooked Well a few times since the new residence ‘Carters’ started - it does not disappoint. Highlights include the gildas and the steak, but need to return for the pie as it looks amazing! The food is high end but with the chilled vibes you want in a pub setting.
A lovely pub, with a great and friendly team. But over the last 12 - 18 months the room seems less busy and I suspect that has a lot to do with the food and drink. A short but nice wine list, the rest of the drinks list seems shorter and more limited. But it is the food menu that has changed drastically. The Crooked Well was a great 'gastro' pub, with excellent food. It was not the cheapest but generally always very good. Now the menu reads like a slightly enthusiastic home cook has put it together, and the general quality is very average. Perhaps we were spoilt beforehand, but it seems like a huge step down. Still a nice place, but perhaps for a Sunday lunch or snack rather than a nice meal with friends.
Went for a Sunday roast a few weeks ago and was really disappointed. I used to rate this place as one of the best roasts, but wow, the standards have really slipped. No roast potatoes, new potatoes instead which were covered in some questionable spices. Beef was not very well cooked, very tough and chewy. Service wasn’t great, when I arrived I was stood like a lemon waiting to be greeted for a good five minutes, despite multiple staff members walking past me seeing me waiting.
Went for Sunday lunch. Disappointed to be served a flat Yorkshire pudding and new potatoes. Apparently the chef was off and their replacement didn't know how to make roast potatoes! Service was great and did make up somewhat for the disappointing roast.Food: 3/5
Have always liked this pub and love what they have done recently with the Carters pop up in the kitchen. Delicious food and a really nice varied menu. Would recommend!Food: 5/5
Such a nice pub with good atmosphere and a great menu from the guys at Carter's. I have the steak which was cooked to perfection and the dessert was . Great experience, will go again!Food: 5/5
They recently got new chefs in and I had one of the best roast beef’s last Sunday. I will definitely be backFood: 5/5
