Story

Serving the Lemsford community for more than 200 years, the building was originally a farmhouse called Hornbeam Hall. Its use as an inn dates back to 1756 when it was called The Chequers. In 1777 Searanckes Brewery of Hatfield acquired the building which remained as The Chequers until 1968 when it was renamed The Crooked Chimney after its distinctive crooked brick chimney
A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

A very attractive old pub, ideal for eating out with a group. Easy to book online. Friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of choice on the menu. Comfortable and spacious seating areas. Car parking is easy.

Great place. There is a huge parking lot, parking, of course, so you don't have to worry about that. The location was great. The house where the restaurant operates is an old house with exposed wooden beams, and as the name implies, there is a chimney. More than one actually. The drinks were great. The long drinks are made well and have a great aspect. The food is not the greatest in the world, but the location makes up for it. I would recommend this place. Verruca cozy, and if you get the seats near the fireplace that is just awesome.

Pie Wednesday. Long wait worth effort for delicious turkey and sage pie even though mash and green veg was at first not piping hot. My friend's Angus beef burger was dry and hard instead of soft and juicy. We waited 45 mins at lunchtime before a morsel crossed our palates.

Lovely venue with great staff. Shame the food is at best "average". Fish and chips in soggy batter. Mash potato that definitely has a 'processed' taste...we didn't hang around for dessert, assuming we would do just as well buying something ready made from a supermarket. A real shame as we have been there before but won't again. If i want this kind of average I will.go a 'chain pub' for less money.

We went for lunch on a Tuesday at 1pm and all the tables in the restaurant were taken, this speaks for itself, this pub is very popular. There was space in the bar area. We found the menu to be varied and interesting. The food was served quite quickly and was well presented, tasty and adequate in quantity. We will eat there again, but I will book in advance.
