The Red Lion, Welwyn nestles just outside Welwyn Garden City centre just on the edge of Sherradspark Woods, the perfect countryside

Story


Our characterful building is filled with cosy corners, comfy armchairs, open log fires and a unique dining room. Chef’s freshly prepared menu and our carefully selected wines, ales and lagers are served daily from lunch right through until dinner.

Our menu changes with the seasons and is modern British, comfortably interwoven with some Mediterranean influences.

It ranges from traditional favourites such as fish and chips and steaks to freshly made pizzas and pastas with the chef’s daily specials showcasing the finest market fresh ingredients. There’s something for everyone and for all occasions too. You don’t have to go for the full works if you don’t want to, just have a snack and a lovely drink in the bar with your friends.

Atmosphere was good enough to seat and enjoy the time some old style cottage. We were delighted to have chosen The Red Lion for our wedding reception. After looking for somewhere with a relaxed ambience suitable for young children, we couldn't have asked for more. The function area was private, with French doors opening onto a patio area to allow guests to meranda. We opted for a buffet, which was ideal with the young children. The food was stunning, the chicken, cod sandwiches were stand out and there was plenty for all. Bubbly all set up for an arrival toast, superb. Stephen the manager was very accommodating, with a friendly and professional manner. We would whole heartedly recommend The Red Lion, and Stephen and his team to help you with your special occasion.
We visited Red Lion this evening for a pre birthday meal. Everything was wonderful. Credit to the chef as each meal was 10/10. Shout out to the amazing waitress Alannah for her service, she was a great host, sociable, bubbly and welcoming. Real credit to the team. Thanks for my birthday wishes team Red Lion.Food: 5/5
Came here for a roast on the way back from a weekend get away. Excellent roasts. I had the trio of meats and my friend the pork roast. Both were well liked. Good balance of portion size and variety on the plate could have been a splash more gravy. Service was quick and polite. We would return here for the roast again.Food: 5/5

I DJ’d and supplied a saxophonist for The Red Lion on New Years Eve and the hospitality that was supplied was superb. Stephen the manager and all the staff were really accommodating, and the food, well take a look for yourself, that was lovely! Thanks again for making work such an enjoyment, hopefully we can do the same again soon! Parking: Plentiful
Took some of our local clients here for an end of year lunch and it was lovely. Christmas decorations looked so nice, and the open fireplaces really make it cosy. Service was excellent and we had a great table - nice Christmas touches. The waiting staff were very friendly and efficient even though the place was really full! Good on them for getting it all done smoothly. The food was great, and a good mix of 'pub grub' and restaurant-style choices. Would definitely recommend. Came back in 2023 and still great place - lovely atmosphere with great food and friendly staff. Highly recommend.
We were a party of 15 who went to Red Lion for a business social. Stephen and his staff did a tremendous job at looking after us. They were patient, attentive and very friendly. The food was great too and everyone was very happy with the experience. Thank you SO much!Food: 5/5
The staff and place are nice but let down by the food today. The Sunday Roast was extremely poor. Meat was over cooked, both the pork and beef was very tough. Seemed like it had left to keep warm for a couple of hours and was like old boots and dry. All the beef was left on the plate but we weren’t asked when it was cleared if there was any issue. To me that’s pretty basic, if someone leaves the main part of the dish ask the guests if there was a problem. Drinks were fine and atmosphere is good but for £21 for a dish we would expect far better than what was served.
