I love the staircase of this place so much. Such a beautiful design. The first two floors are for general European art, which is interesting but nothing very impressive. All the impressionists’ paintings, such as Monet, Manet, Cezanne, Renoir, and Van Gogh’s art are displayed on the top floor, and it is too crowded to even take a picture close. They have a special exhibition of Monet’s paintings of London which is worth seeing but you need to buy special tickets for it. If you like French art, I highly recommend this place.
Great and cozy place to enjoy some spectacular art. They have a huge collection and I will be back to see more of it. What brought me here yesterday was the Claude Monet show featuring his paintings of the foggy Thames. I'm not aware of anyone else ever capturing the feel of late Victorian London, with its dense smog, as well as Monet.
I loved the Courtauld Gallery! The floors are gorgeous, and each space takes you through different time periods, making for a unique experience. The Impressionist and Post-Impressionist rooms were my favorite—the collection is stunning, and I could have spent hours admiring those pieces. However, I did feel some frustrations. I wasn’t sure why Islamic art was included in the medieval part of the collection or how we came to acquire some of it. Also, I was disappointed not to see more women artists represented, and ironically, there’s a portrait of Berthe Morisot, but it’s painted by a man, which felt frustrating. It’s a beautiful gallery and worth a visit, but I really look forward to the day when galleries like this give women artists the spotlight they truly deserve.
A very easy art gallery to walk around, see everything as its layed out so well so I was able to see everything unlike other larger galleries which I get totally lost in as no sense to the layout. Very quiet, peaceful with beautifully decorated rooms. The ceilings were amazing. Look around you, not just at the painted art.
Absolute favourite museum in London! A hidden gem in Somerset House, which many tourists tend to overlook when in London. They have quite low prices considering the amazing collection they exhibit, and also a few offers including free admission for students with a valid student ID. The building itself is elegantly decorated, and the collections are curated in the perfect way. The amount of great works such a small gallery houses is beyond anything one would imagine. From Cézanne, Rubens and Van Gogh to the current star of the show - Monet - they house paintings of world-class artists. I was in awe of their exhibitions, and I can safely say this is a must-visit for everyone who has an interest in art.
The Courtauld is such a lovely gallery. It is relatively small but very well organized in terms of the exhibitions and the crowd control. I was there to see Monet's London Fog exhibition where ~ 40 of Monet's paintings on the same subjects were on display but all with different interpretations of the moment at the time. This is the exhibition Monet himself wanted to orgnize after his successful Paris exhibition more than a century ago, but the plan fell apart. So definitely go to see it if you can.
Went for the Monet exhibition, enjoyed the visit much better this time around. The free galleries are also good but not the best in terms of accessibility, there's a lift sure but the hallways are small.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
This place is a hidden gem. Not only students get in for free, but you also could never expect what you're going to find. I was walking through London looking for something to do when I stumbled into this amazing museum. The gallery itself is architecturally amazing. But what I liked the most about it was being able to see paintings by Gauguin, Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir and so many more. Also, the gift shop is charmingly furnished, and the staff is very kind. Loved it so much, more people should know about it.
Nov24- accidental visit as saw the ES Devlin board. What an amazing space and surprise to see this exhibit. Made one think. Well curated with the installation and 10mins of art/sound and words.
Definitely a little off the beaten path, of the other Museums/ Galleries, except for those in the know. - But having to pay, keeps this an uncrowded experience...which mine was, could wander the 3 floors....as slowly as wanted. As had some time to kill, while waiting to meet husband later. - The building & ceilings were also beautiful. Featured art was well curated, have not been that close to masterpieces before, so felt special. A lovely discovery, with a very boutique gift shop in basement. Was handy having lockers too.
