Very small bookshop with the collected works of Xi Jingping! Lots of Oriental books. Interesting eastern Art books by Hokusai as well. Some of the wood carving art is quite graphic.
Many years ago in 2013, I came into this unique and beautiful book store, and asked if they would consider displaying a little book of poetry I'd published called 'Tales of Fantasy and Reality'. I was met by either the owner, or the manager, and they were so gracious. My book was accepted and placed on one of the display tables at the time! If memory serves me well, I enjoyed a lovely snack there as well. I had course to remember this little book haven today, as I was going through old files, and I'm surprised to see some people have left negative comments. This is in my humble opinion, is a 5 star family owned enterprise. I'll just say, that given the fact that small literary businesses have to tackle so many challenges, a store like this should be cherished and praised. If you're reading this review and wondering if you should pay the bookshop/cafe a visit, I encourage you to give it a try.
I spotted a few interesting books about contemporary affairs in Asia and Europe. But, sadly, there is not much left of what was a larger book shop. Most of the small place is occupied by a café now.
Simply one of the most amazing bookstore if you’re in London, and like me passionate about Asia. You need to drop by!
Yesterday we went to London only to visit your bookshop and it was closed while Google said it was open!
Cold calling , scamming call centre. No its not the wrong number , i have your calling history on screenshots. And No you COLDCALLED me.
Don't bother if u need west African literature. They've got Nada
A cute alternative to sitting in an ordinary cafe!
This bookstore was founded by Arthur Probathain in 1903 and has a history of more than 100 years. It specializes in Asian and African books. You can see many old illustrated magazines and Chinese souvenirs everywhere. It is really wonderful to have a bookstore with a tea room!
Arthur Probsthain is a family-run independent bookstore and gallery. It was founded in 1903 and has a history of more than a hundred years. It is located close to the British Museum and has some university campuses nearby. The London Review Bookshop is also just one block away, and the cultural atmosphere strong. The name of the store comes from the name of the founder. While establishing this bookstore in 1903, Arthur Probsthain began to study Eastern languages including Chinese, Persian and Arabic, and then began to publish a series of books on Chinese philosophy and literature. It was also the beginning of the tradition of Arthur Probsthain's bookstore. To this day, the books sold in the store are still mainly from Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and the gallery's exhibitions also focus on different arts from Africa and the East. New and used books are sold here, and art, music, film, painting, religion, language, literature and culture are all covered. You can also find some out-of-print antique books here that cannot be found elsewhere, all from family collections. Judging from the storefront alone, this bookstore does not have many books among the bookstores we visited, but in fact they have thousands of out-of-print and second-hand books, which can be found and purchased on their online website. In addition, they also have a branch at the School of Oriental and African Studies SOAS, University of London, which mainly sells newly published books on politics, history, economics, business and development studies in China, Japan, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, etc. If you want to read the latest books on the study of these areas, you might as well go here.
