Fantastic pub! We had a great party here at weekend, Rick the manager could not of done enough for us. Great service from all. Great food and drinks especially the Pizza and cocktails . Would recommend for iether just eating or some were to host a party. Thanks again! X
Came here yesterday after a walk round dove stones. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Very helpful and polite. We both had the buffalo burger and it was devine. Great quality and very flavourful. Can't wait to come back.
The bar snacks were great! The salt and pepper squid and soup of the day curried coriander and leek was amazing. They use PG tips for tea which is always a win win
We only called in for drinks after a walk around Dovestones. But cosy, warm and welcoming, very xmassy. Also dog friendly. The roast dinner looked good. It was very busy; we had to sit at a reserved table until the drinkers arrived and ended up sat outside at the front. Could do a bit more with that space, sure it would be appreciated..
Lovely home made pate starter & delicious Sunday roast. Cosy atmosphere, staff very attentive & dog friendly as a plus if you are going for a nice walk around the beautiful Dovestone reservoir!
The Clarence is one of the best pubs I've been too. Not just the ideal location near the stunning Dovestones reservoir, but the choice and quality of the food is amazing. Staff always very friendly. I've been here lots of times now and I aways try and leave gaps in my working week to visit. They have a huge selection of different foods and all that I've tried I've loved. Try the rag pudding wow.
Dropped in for a beer and lunch after a walk, with friends. Good selection of draft beers to choose from. We ate from the 'early bird' menu. Could have up to 3 courses, good choice of food which we all enjoyed, all at a very reasonable price. The 2 young ladies serving brought all drinks and food to the table, we're very helpful and all done without any unnecessary waiting. Excellent!!
Very pleasant meal here. Clean and updated neutral decor, friendly and attentive staff. It was very quiet tonight so cannot comment on service if very busy. I had home made cheese and onion pie which was excellent and made on the premises according to staff who served me . My husband had a sirloin steak which was good quality and perfectly cooked medium rare as requested. Only thing I didn't like was the presence of dogs but if you have a dog that you like to take with you for a meal, this pub seems to accept them willingly. Would return here.
We recently went, after a walk round the local area we wanted to support a local business rather than using a chain. We arrived and there was 4 of us instantly got asked how many of us there were so I replied with 4, the male member of staff we spoke to just walked off muttered to another member of staff, the lovely waitress sat us down and gave us our menu. another waitress immediately came over and asked us what drinks she wanted we asked what drinks they had available or if they had a menu, instantly got told we don't have a menu we are a pub so have pub drinks, my partner asked for a drink that she had drunk at a few other pubs and then instantly got told oh we don't have that so you'll have to have this alternative. we were then instantly asked what food we wanted after we had only just sat down. There was also a group of people sat near us, they were very loud and obnoxious, to the point we were having to shout just to talk to each other, I would never just get up and leave but I honestly was tempted to not get our drinks and food and leave to go to somewhere we felt welcome. It was a nice atmosphere, the pub looked nice but the attitude towards the customers needs to match the décor.
3 ladies celebrated a 92 birthday and took in a cake. Staff very friendly and kind. Busy at tea time calmed a little later. Food very nice with good portion size. Reasonable prices.
