We stayed here a few years ago for a night and it was lovely and recently went for lunch and it was really good. Great menu and lovely staff, dog friendly, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Fresh local produce and presented beautifully very reasonable prices also. Great drinks selection. Perfect place for a drink or meal and family friendly also x plenty of free parking too.
Popped in for an impromptu dinner after walking the dog arrived before food service had a drink in the garden before eating when service started. Food was great lobster & steak obviously… Service was spot on, attentive but not pretentious. Will definitely be back.Service: 5/5
Ate here recently, both had John Dorey with Crab i changed potato choice to chips thankfully. Partner had as it came which we were both stunned to see. 3 small pieces of new potato not even whole potatoes and small amount of fish, very little crab. We did not feel 3 small pieces of potato was adequate for a grown man. The portion size was in our view like a Starter size. The meal was tasty but the size was poor for the price. Partner went home hungry which was not great. I complained when paying and we didn't have to pay which was appreciated. However felt it prudent to mention that had we paid the price of the meals it was not good value. Always happy to pay more for good food and a decent quantity
I stopped off with some friends for lunch on a break from a long countryside walk. I only had a drink but some of the party had food which they said was very nice. The thing that really impressed me was the friendly and efficient service. You are really made to feel very welcome even though I had never been here before. We sat outside but the interior of the pub looks lovely as well.
This review is for the restaurant… did a little bypass to here on the way to Oxford & extremely glad we did… had the lunch sandwich specials of toasted cheese & a crab sandwich with a side of chunky chips. The cheese sandwich was very much like a pipped up American grilled sandwich & the crab one was packed. Bread totally delicious & the chips are the best I’ve had in years. Fantastic food, lovely pib and friendly staff. What more can you want. Parking is a bit limited at about 18 car spaces but we just waited for the postman to leave as he was having his butties in one of the spaces ;
VERY DISAPPOINTING! Me and my partner are staying locally in the area we did not book this hotel. However after looking online at menu options around the local area we decided The Bugle looked good, none of the staff were attentive, but they were busy so I thought hay ho. We were informed when we sat down that there were no children menus or anything for children to eat. That if we wanted something for our daughter we had to order starter/ small bites. Once we ordered our food no warning that it would take over an hour to come out we sat twiddling our thumbs for an hour and a quarter at which time my 1.5 year old was crying , and all around frustrated sitting hungry without anything to eat or do. Once the food finally arrived we were both shocked to see that the portion sizes were incredibly small and to go with it the high cost of the food prices particularly the lamb and pork that we’d ordered weren’t justifiable. The pork was 90% grissle, fat, and bone. The lamb shoulder consisted of 5 pieces of lamb cut into five small circles roughly the size of a two pound coin. A few meazely peices of potatoe on each, with no veg just some cucumber with the lamb in a horrible dressing and a side bowl of what consisted of salad leaves. I told the waitress we were still hungry, and disappointed with the food. To no avail. We decided to leave the rest of our drinks and head to the nearest McDonalds in the area. Once addressing this matter again at the till once paying, the manager said she would take off the drinks. Leaving the cost of both meals costing around 4 times that amount anyway. Won’t be returning or recommending.
Always a pleasure to dinner at this great gastro pub! The crab and kimchi spring roll and duo of lamb was amazing and the fish and chips always a favouriteRooms: 5/5
Arrived to celebrate a birthday for a table of 8. Unfortunately we did have to wait 45 minutes for our table to be ready. After about 30 we were offered a drink on the house which was very appreciated. My steak was ordered rare as I like it, it was more bleu not a problem, I like that too sadly the steak was seriously lacking seasoning. My wife had the burger which she thoroughly loved, saying it was possibly the best burger she has had. Service and staff were fantastic. Not a fan of the location as parking is limited for the amount of covers the place can take. So all in all a mixed review, would I return... Yes, I think so
We arrived early then our booking, manage to get parking straight away, we went to the bar and were served immediately for our drinks. Later we were called to our table when it was ready. The staff were great and nothing was too much trouble. Service was excellent the Sunday roast was to die for, well worth the price. Was only there for a meal not to use the hotel.
Very pleasant lunch with friends. Friendly attentive but not intrusive service, good food.
