I experienced the most traumatising night of my life after being sent here following a serous suicide attempt. I became psychotic and absolutely wasn't safe. I was banging my head on the wall and screaming after a met with a doctor who dismissed me and made me feel like my life was worth nothing. Staff saw me doing this, told me to stop and then left me alone in the hallway. I was refused any admission to hospital or real care and was given anti anxiety meds which I later overdosed on and was sent home. This experience was something you'd expect to find in a 1800s asylum. I blame a lot of this on the lack of funding and the poor staff being overworked but there are truly some health professionals who don't care whatsoever about patients who are mentally ill. Even if we are close to death they will not do a thing, only leave us with more trauma.
there is a member of staff named Parrul Patell who is a disgrace and should be sacked. Actually called my sister mental and was prioritising the black people in front of her even though my sister had the first appointment she was made to wait. Next stop our MP and the papers unless this woman is suspended/sanctioned/fined or moved very publically. she is not fit to work there. I tried to politely complain and she then asked if I was mental as well!! My sister has not been back since as is frightened of the same treatment which is just not on. Luckily we managed to get her into somewhere else now. Even so this Parrul needs to be disciplined, preferably with the sack!
Terrible place, took my wife ages to be admitted after 16 suicide attempts in 2 months The crisis team are a joke and ask five questions offer no help then disappear. One has stated that she couldn't have wanted to kill herself because she called for help.... no she was caught attempting suicide and help was summoned. She was kept in for two weeks, no therapy offered or given, while in there she still self harmed. Caught trying to kill herself on several occasions. To be released, because they feel that they cannot help her. They never even tried. Waste of time, effort, stress and no value for human life... Disgusting. There is no help for anyone with mental health issues. Nowhere actually cares its just lies.
My sister is there but trying to get ANY information is like getting blood from a stone. They call you back on private numbers and only try you once, so if you miss the call because you're working etc you have to go through the whole process again. In my opinion we should privatise the NHS and open it up to free market competition, we are paying via National Insurance so anybody that thinks it's free is wrong. I'd rather pay £100 a month and less NI.
I have been an outpatient since 2017, since thenand all before the beginning of the pandemic I had a total of 9 appointments cancelled, allowing a wait of two years between psych appointments. I had started a therapy and didn’t get on with it, went to my psych and told them that and was told I had been referred to a different type of therapy. Since the start of the pandemic my appointments have been kept to, but I have now asked 4 times on the status of my referral to be told they’re not sure if I’ve even been referred anywhere. I have asked for written confirmation whatever the circumstances and been promised it twice with no such confirmation. If I could afford private therapy I would have done it years ago. I haven’t been able to work for 5 years now, nearly my entire adult life. I understand the nhs mental health services are severely underfunded, but I have been handled without care, organisation or humanitybar one very kind assessor
I was extremely lucky that Bosworth ward hadn't been converted at the time. I had an absolutely outSTANDING named nurse-Big Rob Kerr. Former Bootneck. ROYAL marine. Couldn't have worked out better. I will say, I was the target of racial bullying by a nurse there that just hated me simply because.....who knows. But she made life he'll when on shift- Rachel. All in all between Rob, J.P. and Claire Ellis-unit psychologist, such a comprehensive assessment and report, now known as The Claire Ellis report, funny but true, still helping me in 2022. I'll never forget Laura J. OR Laura T either. Too many legends worked there at the time to remember them all Oh yeah, and posh bird. Shabby Abbie as well. Thank you all
Overall: the staff were wonderful, but the service is clearly lacking funding and capacity. Long wait lists and poor communication. It is a shame because staff probably have to deal with a lot of complaints of things not under their control. The Bradgate ADHD Service has been a mixed bag. It took over a year for me to be given my first appointment following my initial referral, it would have been nice to at least receive something to say they had received my referral and how long I could expect to wait. Once I did get seen the process was an initial meeting with an ADHD specialist. I'd advise to turn up very early if you don't know where the unit is because it was a long walk from where I parked. I was then sent another appointment for the following month during which I had to complete a more detailed questionnaire and received my diagnosis. At this point, care was handed over to the titration nurses to help me find the right type and dose of medication. I was called by the clinic each month to review medication and all of the titration nurses were very friendly. After a few months I was put into the care of Fran who assured me that he alone would be my point of contact from then on. He has been extremely friendly, helpful and understanding. He has helped me to find the correct medication by explaining each of the options clearly and allowing me to find one that suited me best, he advised me of anything to be concerned about, sent me information and booked telephone appointments with me so I knew when to expect follow up calls.
Lady who dealt with everything was rude and inferred that I should kill myself. No help whatsoever and left feeling worse than when I went in. I was also laughed at when talking about some problems I had, honestly are a bunch of c*nts and everyone who I spoke to was rude and b*tchy
I blame this unit for the death of my brother who was discharged without any thought or plan, went back into a volatile living arrangement, and died violently within a fortnight.
The majority of the staff are lovely. I think the nurse's are put under far to much pressure and spend too much time doing paperwork when it should be spent with the patients. This isn't their fault. The NHS should employ more staff per ward. I was recently a patient on the Ashby ward and can honestly say since my last admission four and half years ago there have been some major improvements with the ward itself. Sadly the patient to staff ratio remains unchanged and wish they had more time for patient interaction.
