This was my first musical and it was so much fun! I was scared to fall asleep because musicals are not my cup of tea but the whole show was so nice. The actors and actresses were great and sooo entertaining. It’s surprising to see a show in 2024 that it’s not too “WOKE” since it could be a bit controversial for certain jokes. But the people involved seemed that they didn’t care too much and just laughed about it. The theatre was good, but there is not much space for legs between the seats. Highly recommended show!
The play was profane, grotesque, racist, blasphemous, and mocking. It seems evident that no consideration was given to those who follow the Mormon faith, as the attack on their beliefs is forceful and unrestrained. Mockery becomes the means to convey the message, ridiculing what Mormons consider sacred and worthy of respect. They do not hold back on profanity, blasphemy, or the grotesque. But above all, they cleverly conceal these elements behind the image of a naïve, believing character and Africa’s “ignorance.” For someone who sees the play without prior knowledge of the Mormon religion, it will present a distorted image that could make a future consideration of this faith difficult to overcome. I would say the script was written by Lucifer. No joke Do something else. You will be disappointed.
A great show and performances in a comedy show - it consists of many profanities, funny scenes plus brings a spotlight on religion, society and race. Superb production and a beautiful theatre. thank you
Went to see The Book of Mormon. Don’t understand why everyone was laughing their heads off for the whole show. At best, it was dull and crass with brainless humour. At worst, it was just plain racist with its oversimplified depictions of the African experience only serving to perpetuate harmful stereotypes. There were a couple of moments/numbers that were alright, but I actually felt sorry for the actors. I felt it a great shame that their obvious talent be undermined by such a poor body of work. I’m not easily offended and I do appreciate the subversive power of satirical humour, but this just wasn’t smart or funny. Cannot for the life of me fathom why this is as popular as it is, and I actually find it a rather sorry reflection of society today that this is viewed as one of the best shows out there and has been for over a decade.
It's a funny musical but has nuance. It pokes fun at the darker side of society while still staying positive which should make it less offensive honestly. The Prince of Wales theater is iconic. I definitely recommend getting good seats. Especially since the ticket prices are on the cheaper side out of the numerous Picadilly theatres, especially at certain dates and times.
If you are easily offended and don't like profanities then this is NOT the show for you! If you have a sense of humour and enjoy great musical entertainment then this show will blow your mind!! Sat in Circle row F seat 7. Excellent view of the stage.
I literally loved this show. The cast were phenomenal, the acting ability is one of the best I’ve seen live. The enthusiasm and electric energy they kept up throughout the show is incredible. I was lucky to have watched this centre stage, front row and could appreciate every expression on the actors faces, such a joy to watch. The sets were so well thought out and quite spectacular. Hilariously and cleverly scripted. I would highly recommend you watch this with an open mind, don’t take it too seriously and do not watch if you are easily offended, some moments were jaw dropping. for me anyway The theatre staff were very friendly and attentive.
O M.G. what a theatre and what a show!! I love musicals and hubby treated me to this. All I can say is "don't bring your god-fearing granny". It was so un-PC it was refreshing. Life is getting far too serious having to watch what you say, do or think in case it offends anyone. This play doesn't care! It does what it wants, says what we are all thinking and gets you hooked in with it!! I laughed so hard I burst a blood vessel in my eye. So worth it!!!!
Summary: if you liked South Park, or at least you appreciate the kind of humour of South Park, you will certainly enjoy the show. It is fun, it has a good bit of black humour and irony, and there's a lot of catchy songs. The plot is good, the flow is good. Only giving it 4/5 because sometimes it was a little bit too much for me but this is just me!
Second time I’ve seen this production. Current cast is great. Still hilarious.
