Beautiful interior like a traditional pub. Service was quite slow unfortunately and we waited 45 minutes for our food. The food was actually really nice and the onion rings were delicious. I'm asked for my steak to be medium rare but it was more on the rare side. The dessert was quite nice but the creme brulé was freezing at the bottom but warm on the top. It also has a weird grainy texture so I was rather disappointed as I was looking forward to it. Overall, good food, lovely interior but service and attention to detail was a bit disappointing.
As we head out of Christmas and into the second week of the year it’s time to get the Sunday lunch trail up and running. With this we headed for a long overdue return to the Black Horse in Brentwood which is part of the Vintage Inns chain. I’m also now very pleased to say we weren’t let down in the slightest. On our arrival we received a lovely greeting which included a welcome back from manager Leigh before being seated at our table. We started with a drink while having a look at the menu. Once we made our decisions our waitress Nina who I have to say was very friendly and professional throughout our lunch took our order. We started with a Prawn Cocktail and the oven baked Button & Portobello Mushrooms. These dishes were a delight and a great way to begin. Now we moved on to the roasts and boy were we in for a treat. My wife opted for the Roast Turkey and for myself I had to choose the Trio of Roasts which was a mix of pork belly , turkey & beef. The roasts were accompanied with a selection of vegetables , roast potatoes , yorkshire pudding , gravy and of course the additional cauliflower cheese. We now needed a little break before finishing with dessert. This gave us a chance to have a chat with manager Leigh. For dessert my wife chose the Eton Mess and on waitress Nina’s recommendation I chose the Banoffee Pie with toffee sauce. We finished with a coffee to bring to an end a fantastic Sunday Lunch. The food and service was excellent and really can’t wait to visit again soon. I would definitely recommend a visit as this is a great place for couples , small and large groups where you can enjoy good food along with friendly service. Thank You Leigh and all the team especially our waitress Nina who really looked after us and look forward to seeing you all again very soon
Lovely pub with great service. It's a dog friendly pub so we were by the bar though my friend didn't bring hers in the end, a high chair for my other friends little one. Very good mix and match menu for kids. I had steak, everyone else had the burgers. Brilliant chunky chips, and excellent puddings. Mine was also a feast for the eyes and stomach ! Black forest broken pot dessert.
Great service, affordable drinks and outstanding food. 10/10. Went there twice on a recent visit. My fish & chips were excellent.
My starter was the king prawn cocktail and was amazing. Very pleased with my rib eye steak. The chips were amazing. Highly recommended. Great pub
The wife and I had a really enjoyable evening here, with drinks in the spacious garden and a lovely meal in what I would call a real country pub. Thanks to the staff and especially Nina who looked after us all evening. Strongly recommend
My first visit for months, and I was not disappointed. Food was delicious. Service was great, and the beer was cold. Prices... Well we all know that the cost of eating out has gone up... But it really means that we have to be careful with them pennies... Whilst I would love to say the meals and drinks were value for money, I can also say that the total bill made me wince...
Not cheap but tasty food and good portion size. Service a bit slow, but they were busy at the time we visited.
Had an absolutely delicious meal tonight as I always do. The staff provided a warm welcome and the pub looks beautiful. Really impressed as I always am. Will be back on Sunday for the festive menu! Also Shaun & Jackie are so so so amazing and a credit to the pub!
I wouldn’t even give a one star but I can’t leave a review! If you don’t have white skin you will not be welcome!!! Myself, my husband and son went to this pub on Thursday 15th September at 1:30pm and asked a member of staff for a table for 3. He looked around and looked over at an older lady who looked at us and mimed to him “no way”, making some hand and face gestures to indicate she did not want us in the pub. She thought she was being discreet but my husband saw her. We were then told that they had no availability and we were turned away. I could not believe what I had just experienced, being born and brought up in the UK, for the first time I felt racial hatred towards myself and my family. We left the restaurant and went back into our car, I was angry.. I went on the pubs online booking system and I was able to make a reservation for 3 people at 1:45pm? Which made it clear to me that they did have tables but they didn’t want to seat us because of the colour of our skin. I called the restaurant to make a complaint and speak to the manager, and I was assured by the member of staff that took my call that the manager would call me back by 12pm the next working day and I am yet to receive a call. I will be taking this further with Mitchell and Butlers and report this racial hate to the authorities as the member of staff who said “no way” because of the colour of our skin needs to be held accountable for her actions.
