Stopped here for lunch as the final destination on a rideout with friends. Gorgeous historic pub in a small village with splendid views across the valley from the rear terrace. My pictures don't do it justice due to the iffy weather. We ordered our meals and my fish and chips arrived. Great big bit of fish and some heavy duty chips with a decent serving of tartare sauce and mushy peas. I decided to add some vinegar as usual and saw a bottle of white vinegar on the table so poured a line on my fish only to discover it was oily and not vinegar but anti bacterial hand wash. I hadn't read the big label on the other side of the bottle DOH!! My friends understood and promptly laughed at me and when the waitress asked what had happened she told me she would ask the chef to cook me another but it would take a few minutes. I gratefully accepted and the chef sent out a bowl of French fries for me to munch on while I waited as it had made him laugh so much. :: When the new portion arrived along with a brand new bottle of malted vinegar it was excellent and well worth the wait. Throughout our visit the service from the staff was excellent as was the food and coffee and I now understand why the group go there frequently for lunch. I know I will return as well. Thank you all at The Black Boy. J
Lovely pub, great views of bucks countryside, was in need of a roast dinner because it was Sunday! Past experience, it's tough to find a great roast so finding somewhere you can trust is hard. It's a little on the pricey side but it's well worth it! Trio of meat was my choice , 2 children with us 2 empty bowls.
Quaint pub with some rather wonderful views from a lovely garden setting. Unfortunately the weather had other ideas but I will go back for that half of the experience, where I'll no doubt up the star rating . Service was ok and the food from the kitchen arrives promptly without delay. Had the customary Friday dish, beer battered Haddock, with chunky chips and it was delicious. Scampi and skinny fries was equally as lovely. Can't wait to sample the other delights from this place
Excellent old pub with great views. Food and service very good
Went for a late Sunday lunch on route to Waddesdon Manor. Very cold day but a warm welcome and friendly service. Not a cheap option but a very good quality Roast had by 3 of us. Fishcake main was also declared lovely. Limited choice of starters and 3 of the options were cheesy. Decent wine choices and several ales. This pub is tucked away in a small village but worth seeking out.
We live nearby and frequent the Blackboy quite often as it has a lovely garden and great beer. We went for lunch on Sunday and were very disappointed. They had run out of the only vegetarian option on the menu. I therefore requested a roast but without the meat and assumed the price would be lowered. I was informed the price would be the same because you get extra vegetables! I was also informed the gravy was based on meat so I could not have that either. No vegetarian option was available. We then waited for 50 minutes for our food to arrive. We had to get up to go to the bar as the waitresses did not seem to be taking any notice of their customers and asking them if they needed anything. There was a lot of wondering about. We had to ask them if we could order our food and dessert as they did not ask us. The food on arrival was very good and the peanut butter cheesecake was amazing but the service does need to improve and they need to consider vegetarian customers - there are quite a lot of us now. We had paid a deposit but the first bill presented to us did not have that deducted. We were about to pay it when they then provided us with the right bill. Watch out if you’ve paid a deposit. We will definitely go back but probably for drinks.
Great food, superb location with outstanding views across the hills and fields.
Came here for my partners birthday. Food was amazing. Great views and big shout out to Holly for making us feel super welcome. We will definitely come back.
Lovely pub in a beautiful location . Let down by food and service on this occasion unfortunately. Food was dry and a bit bland I had pie of the day And service was very slow with staff that didn't seem like they wanted to be there. and it showed . When asking a waitress for her recommendation she couldn't give it as she didn't know the menu .. Maybe a bad night as have heard many great things about this pub ..
A beautiful pub with friendly and helpful staff. A wonderful view from the restaurant or pub garden. The food was good and well priced.
