Nestled in the grounds of the medieval Bishop's Palace, you can enjoy lunch, brunch and some of the best coffee and cake in Wells! Enjoy views of a medieval Palace building, Croquet Lawn complete with croquet players in summer, ruins of a Great Hall and, for those sitting outside on the sunny terrace, an additional view of our neighbour, Wells Cathedral. The Bishop's Table brings you seasonal menus made from fresh, local produce - we even use fruit and vegetables grown on-site in our thriving Community Garden. The Bishops Table set in the grounds of the Bishops Palace and Gardens is worthy of a stop. A good selection of food and drink and is dog friendly inside and outside. The vegan roll and Cornish pasty were just the right temperature to be eaten hot. The staff were nice. Would eat here again.Food: 5/5
Great location for a cafe within the Bishop's Palace. Cakes, light meals and beverages at reasonable prices. Always busy at lunchtime, but ample seating outside. Parking within a five minute walk of Wells City centre.Food: 5/5
Arrived at the Bishop’s table before 2:30pm on a busy market day. Went to place an order and was told that the kitchen had close despite the signage and menu saying that they served hot food until 3pm Offered a single pasty or Sandwiches from the fridge Decided on a cake and coffee the cake was dry and tasteless. coffee was Ok. Very expensive for what it was. I would definitely NOT recommend.
Went in 2021 and again in 2022 see update. My friend offered me a coffee here. We ordered lattes with full cream milk. The coffee was very good indeed. It was smooth and tasted like real coffee should, superb stuff. My only gripe would be the cost of a small granola bar which is £2.95, it is too costly in my opinion. The hard wooden seats were a little austere but the nice girls took the pain away UPDATE: Visited again this May and found quite a change. The coffee was different to last time, not good very bitter and it was expensive. We will not be going again!
Friendly, lovely setting with some very nice cakes and sandwiches Edit: Well I've changed my mind. Horrible service, mediocre food, what a shame and also what happened, it used to have way more of a community feel to itFood: 2/5
Wasn't too bad, Very busy. Can be cold if near the door due to all the visitors coming in and out. But overall good. Staff very helpful. They do their best for u . Good prices food very enjoyable. Great views in the bishops palaceFood: 4/5
Very disappointing food. Staff clearly didn't know they were serving. Inediable shepards pie that we were assured had potato mash..but it was mashed tined beans. Chicken too dry to eat. Nice building but be wary of eating a hot meal.Food: 1/5
The cake was nice, the service quite slow.Food: 4/5
I previously left a review of here saying how much we like it and they always have lovely cakes, and lots of gluten free options. Since then it has changed completely. The range of cakes is terrible, the ones they have are stale and sweet and the labelling is not helpful, you have to ask what most of them are. You used to get your hot drink at the counter when you order, now they have to bring it to your table. This means a long delay sat waiting. Today the waitress slopped tea and milk all over the table and didn't even apologise, just put everything on the table and left us to mop up the mess. We used to be regulars here but that was our last visit.
Lab food, juice concentrate not fresh kind of place. I ordered the Vegetarian burger. Turns out it apparently was but tasted exactly like meat?... I wanted it to taste like a vegetable patty, thats why I don't eat meat, cos I don't like the taste or texture. I tried to eat it but it was foul and couldn't. I queried it politely and was told its a new brand. It must have been made in lab or was meat as my body nearly threw up. I thought having the soup instead was a fair compromise but they didn't care and wanted me to pay again. It's not right cos I still feel physically sick an hour later and I don't see the point of keeping people's money and disregarding customer preferences or health. It's not clever and clearly left me disappointed. Views are lovely but I wouldn't go back to that cafe place again.
