The Baring Arms
"Located on a residential street between Islington and Shoreditch, just off Regent’s Canal, The Baring is defined by Rob’s simple yet considered cooking, promoting humble ingredients and seasonal produce, against a backdrop of low intervention wines and independent UK breweries.Sustainability, provenance, and low environmental impact will be guiding principles throughout. TheBaring will stay respectful to the traditions of the great British pub whilst not being bound by them, looking with a fresh perspective to bring a current and relevant approach to the gastropub."

First visit and a fantastic experience. Food is first class and some of the best dishes I have had for a long time in a great mix of cosy pub vibe and top restaurant. Perfect stop after a walk along the canal. Great, quality selection of beer and wine too. Will return.
Lovely staff, some of the food was delicious especially the dessert. However, the wait for food was extremely long - although by the looks of it, only at our table. Severe delay between starters and mains. Sides never came even after we had already finished our mains so we had to cancel as at that point we just wanted to get dessert and go. We were still billed for the food that didn’t come so we had to kindly ask them to remove it. Generally, for the price and promise our first time here was just alright.
We came here for Sunday roast and I had the beef sirloin with Yorkshire pudding and horseradish. It is more on the expensive side at £28 but it was well worth it as the meat was tender and had good flavour, potatoes were perfectly cooked and the kale had the right balance of garlic and crispy breadcrumbs. We also shared the chocolate, olive oil, sea salt, macadamia dessert which was delicious. The service was polite and the pub vibe is lovely.
It was so worth the journey from Peckham. I misread the booking information and thought it was last Sunday. It wasn’t. They were really accommodating and offered a table even though they were fully booked. We were told to free it in about an hour and a half. Fair enough! That’s already a good reason for a 5 stars review. The best was to come. The food was glorious. There were just the right layers of flavours making every ingredient essential. I am tired of overcrowded plates taking over everywhere. I chose the herring and the pollock and will return to have the same anytime. The decor and ambience follow the same rules as the menu: simple, soothing and elegant
A very nice posh pub. Relaxed dining setting for a calm lunch. Friendly staff and handsome decor. Food is very high quality, the European dishes come out on top.
Wow, what incredible food. The Sunday roast was delicious. I also loved the non alcoholic drinks on offer - so refreshing to see alternatives to sugary fizzy drinks. We will return soon!
We visited on a quiet lunchtime in early January on a recommendation by Grace Dent who named as one of her top restaurants of 2022. Highlights were a quail shish kebab with pul biber and red cabbage - the best kebab I’m likely to ever eat - and a buttery plum sponge pudding with cold custard. Really delicious, reasonably-priced food in a charming London pub.
Just perfect - the food, atmosphere and service! We had the Sunday roast and it was easily one of the best roasts we’ve ever had. Highly recommend.
What a lovely chilled location, designed so well. The food looks amazing and there is attention to detail everywhere you look. Worth the visit and dont forget to have one of the house cocktails which are made so well.
A gem of a restaurant tucked in Baring St. in Islington. Refreshing menu with interesting combinations. Everything was well made and balanced. Delicious overall. Also highly recommend their roast which possibly the best ive had.
