Came yesterday 5th for a birthday lunch with my parents and the food and gin was amazing! And i love that you had a table that felt separate from everyone else! Being autistic this really made me feel more comfortable as it was my first visit definitely will be back!
A nice vintage inn In a lovely location with the canal passing by There is a good outdoor dining area overlooking the canal Lovey friendly staff Went on a Sunday and they were very busy and had sold out of many dishes Had the baked Camembert which was satisfactory but would have been EBI it had a pickle or chutney accompaniment The chicken wings were excellent All main meals and desserts were average Great location Lovey staff Average food
Nice place.. Food is well presented. Our server Bethaney was very helpful and pleasant. The only issue I could see was that the onion rings and the fish had very thick batter disguising the lack of content inside. For the price we paid I would have expected more fish than batter and unfortunately this wasn't the case. This was our first experience of The Anchor and although we can't fault the service and location, considering the cost we weren't impressed overall with the food .I can imagine it will look lovely in the summer by the canal and for this reason will probably visit again. An easy 4 star rating amd if not for the batter I would have given 5 stars.
Great food here, I’ve been here a few times for work meals and the food is always good. Staff are really nice too and super helpful. I would recommend the veggie curry.
Went today for Sunday Lunch. Nice old fashioned looking pub on quiet lane by canal. Service was very good, food not so, not really worth the price. Starters small overpriced, edible but not great. Main courses not up to par for the cost. Some of the potatoes were half charcoal. My partner had the beef which consisted of 2 slices so small it was funny. 2 slices might be OK for a small portion but if you've got to the end of a joint that tapers down it isn't. I never comment about food but we did have to point this out to the waitress who did kindly get one more small slice for us. 5 stars for the waitress, 1 star for the chef.. total 3 stars. Wouldn't return on a Sunday. Would consider going again if I was in the area and just after a burger or something, as the pub itself was nice and service good.
Attractive looking pub, friendly atmosphere, welcoming atmosphere and tastefully decorated. Bar staff were really approachable, upbeat and chatty and service was pretty quick. Unfortunately, the food was a bit disappointing and no one came to ask if everything was ok. We had 4 chicken sandwiches and a starter with a side of greens. I didn't try the sandwiches but my relatives said there wasn't much meat in them and it was cold though the bread was toasted and the bread seemed stale. They each left some food the big bread crusts, which were too hard for them to chew. At £8.50 each this didn't seem like great value. I had the side of veg, which was slightly overcooked but a nice selection, so no complaints there. The starter was the scallops and prawns. It was well cooked, just very small portion 2 scallops and 3 prawns. I wasn't that hungry hence only having a starter, it was just as well as it was very little food and at £9.50 it felt over priced. But, as I say, service was good and it was a nice environment. If I went again, I'd go find someone and speak directly to about the food, it was just that no one came and checked and my parents didn't comment on their meals until I asked them on the drive home
What a fantastic Saturday evening we all had on a small family gathering. Reserved a table and we were seated and attended to like we were old friends. Drinks, starter, mains and dessert absolutely top class. Waitress was super helpful and is a credit to the pub. Faultless. Thank you so much to you all.
Came for a drink to see family without booking a table, chanced it. Was told by staff there are no tables available although there are multiple time slots available on their website to book a table all throughout this evening, along with a large number of empty tables throughout the establishment. Poor service from staff as they seem to have a "can't be bothered" attitude. Won't be returning anytime soon, such a disappointment after coming here in the past and their service being excellent!
Fish and Chips overlooking the canal! While the service was efficient, staff friendly and food hot and tasty, the deck area could do with a bit of a tidy up, there were discarded serviettes and food debris under the table. The surface of the table needed a wipe too!
An underwhelming experience tonight compared to other visits. Apparently all the tables were booked and they were not taking walk ins. Could I eat in the bar area? Yes! And they still turned others away? The Doombar didn't taste right to me and neither did the Stella. The food was so so, not a lot for the money and the chips were cold. The waitress reliably informed me that she would tell the kitchen - I wonder what they replied?
