Liked it, didn't love it. The value proposition on the sign outside states Indian half plates and full drinks. But portions are very small, and fairly expensive. Service was friendly, though! Tip: Friendly for solo diners. Has a row of seats by the window.
The food is really good. Only problem is service is really slow and can't really understand why. As the portions advertised as medium dishes are tiny. If you go in groups. Order the party menu. Even if a date for 2 people you need to order quite a few dishes. Also one bad thing I didn't like was that I found out the service charge doesn't go to any of the waiting staff. So ensure you request for it to be taken off your bill and leave a cash tip for your server.
Falling somewhere between East London's dives and Mayfair's Michelin stars, Talli Joe isn't your standard British Indian joint. This colourful spot has been infected by London's love affair with modern small-plate restaurants, so the menu – featuring plates half, small and sweet – leaps around with regional dishes from across all of India. Expect the unexpected, from lobster momo dumplings to naan stuffed with truffle.
If you're expecting an authentic Indian restaurant, you'll be disappointed. But if you're looking for a nice British take of Indian food of tapas/sharing sizes, with cool twists according to the latest fashion, you'll have fun. Crispy kale, naan with blue cheese, black carrot sweets, etc. Colorful, family friendly - I liked it.
Came twice, once for dinner, once for lunch. Food was small plates, regional Indian food, lots of street food, all of which were delicious and beautifully presented. Came for their special lunch meal which was also good one steamed rice flour thingy with fried okra, one coconut curry, plus rice. Enjoyed it, but thought £10 was a little steep.
Having lived in London for over a year now, I can't think of a place with worse value that what I experienced here. I went with a party of 5 for a special set menu and the quantity of food for the price we paid was astonishing! We complained to the manager and while some effort was made to rectify the situation I am still dissatisfied with our group paying £175 and still being left hungry at the end of the night. Picture below is all we got for the price we paid. Would definitely not go back! EDIT: In reply to the response from the restaurant below, we were clearly told that any additional food ordered would be an extra cost. So I do not believe this was an option for us otherwise we would have received more food when we complained!
Visited Talli Joe last weekend to try the Saturday Brunch thaali, which was a delight. Thaal comes with about 6 small plates of different things – masala prawn, chana chaat, fried keralas, coconut pudding, stuffed mince parathas and butter chicken with rice. Also came with some papad and some lovely chutney condiments. The meal comes with unlimited Prosecco but as we are non-drinkers, we opted for a delicious lemonade. Really tasty food and a good mix of everything, loved the masala tastes. The restaurant itself has a lovely vibe, and I loved the quirky décor. Service was decent, we received our food pretty quickly and waiters were discreet without bothering us. Will be coming back to try the black gajar halwa pudding!
An Indian Restaurant with a twist. They have experimented with the food, not much in taste but in presentation. Dishes are selected all across India. Spread is good & service excellent. Must visit.
Amazing food. Great service. Indian food served tapas style. Must try the Chicken Chat and Lamb Curry. The Bangalore drink they made was out of this world.
Great taste, small portions but good you don't like overeating : taste is really really nice
