Absolutely wonderful in every respect. The Lodge Room was beautifully decorated with thoughtful touches (bottles of water, wine glasses and bottle opener, moisturiser, decent biscuits - the list is endless). Breakfast was delicious - locally sourced and perfectly cooked. And homemade bread!! The owner - Anne - was just lovely. Very welcoming and helpful in pointing out the best local fish and chips shop, Possibly the best overnight experience I have had in a long time. The only shame is that I’m not likely to be in Holmfirth again anytime soon!!

I have referred friends of mine to stay in this guesthouse previously and the feedback has always been very good (I grew up in Holmfirth and know the area well). However, I was extremely disappointed with the service at the guesthouse when my husband and I spent our wedding weekend there in May 2017 together with a number of our guests. We all stayed between 2 and 3 nights. Whilst the guesthouse itself is lovely (aside from the mouldy chocolate éclair left in the fridge in a friend's room), the interim manager was quite bizarre and, it seemed, severely lacking in customer service. This was clear from the regimented breakfast orders, unlocking and walking into a guest's room unannounced and, having been told that we could have some takeaway food in the guesthouse on our final night (due to me being unwell) to then being told very bluntly at 9pm (in the knowledge that we had ordered and collected said food at the interim manager's agreement) that we would have to "find somewhere else to go". As is obvious, had we been told this from the start we would have made alternative plans without any issue. The whole experience put a real dampener on what was otherwise a very special weekend. Having subsequently spoken with the owner (following our stay - I was telephoned twice whilst on our honeymoon and out of courtesy spoke to him) to convey ours and our guest's disappointment we were met, in complete disbelief, with an effort to justify our complaints. Our review on Trip Adviser was met with a similar justification and, one step worse, what appears to be an attack on us/my husband. We were merely being honest in our review and so were very concerned to see the owner's response which baffled us even further. Upon researching other negative reviews, the owner clearly favours a 'justification' approach and/or criticism of the guest rather than any sort of apology or acknowledgement that the service was not up to scratch. Indeed, I still find the ongoing absence of any apology quite baffling. As a result I'm afraid that I felt compelled to write this review.
