The Streetlife Museum in Hull is a captivating journey through time, perfect for visitors of all ages. Located in the heart of the city, this museum offers a hands-on experience with history, focusing on transportation and everyday life over the past 200 years.nnAs soon as you step inside, you're transported to a bygone era. The museum is filled with beautifully restored carriages, trams, bicycles, and cars that tell the story of how people used to travel. Each exhibit is thoughtfully arranged, allowing you to get up close and imagine what life was like back then. The attention to detail is incredible, making it easy to picture yourself in another time.nnOne of the highlights is the recreated 1940s street, complete with shop fronts and a chemist, where you can wander and explore at your own pace. It's like stepping into a living history book! Children and adults alike will enjoy the interactive displays, where you can even climb aboard some of the vehicles. There’s also a delightful collection of toys and games from the past that will spark nostalgia in older visitors and curiosity in younger ones.nnThe museum is free to enter, making it an excellent choice for a family day out or a quiet afternoon of exploration. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to share fascinating stories or answer any questions you might have.nnWhether you're a history enthusiast or just looking for something different to do, the Streetlife Museum offers a fun, educational experience that everyone can enjoy. It’s a place where the past comes to life, and you can lose yourself in the charm of yesteryears.
Having seen many images of this place online I knew it had to be the first place to visit in the few hours I would be in Hull. In fact, I enjoyed myself there so much that I had to reluctantly chop one item from my plans for the day.nAn added bonus was that I had to walk along the cobbled High Street to reach the museum.nThe cars, vans, buses and tram were well worth the visit.nThey have a tremendous array of bicycles . In recent years I did see someone push a penny farthing along a street in Cardiff. The thought of bicycle polo made me think, in a humorous way, it was a forerunner to the game of shinty. Both sports have a potential for violence though that is not the intent.nThe highlight was the ride in a Royal Mail Stage Coach I think from 1868. It is a real bone-shaker with commentary from an imagined driver. The ride is free of charge, as is admission to the museum.nI think there were a few sections that I didn't see due to time pressure but I was delighted with what I did see.
Absolutely loved my visit to the Streetlife Museum! My favourite part was the working vintage arcade machines, I will be back with more cash! This museum is fab for the whole family, with lots to see and do, and lots of immersive and interactive elements. The vintage wagon ride was quirky and well enjoyed too. I would recommend this museum to anyone and everyone - a MUST VISIT!
Amazing place only saw half in 4 hours going back asap Staff wonderful, so informative and knowledgeable. Pretty gardens. Only thing missing was a cup of tea. Managed to get one just across the road. I think they should have a van in the garden selling teas. With monies going to the museum . Take cash for a donation as we only had cards and the machine was out of order to take our donation. Well worth a sizeable donation when entry was FREE.
It was a really immersive experience. Go to see different vehicles and mode of public and private transport from different time periods. Including what businesses looked like in Hull.nnI really had fun there, and I'm not yet done exploring. I'll be going back again for the third time.
