This Catholic Church is a gem hidden within one of the side streets. Though quite small, it has an impressive history and is the oldest Catholic Church in London. In a world where most masses are in english it’s impressive they have a Latin mass.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Off the beaten track, it took us a little while to find this fabulous old church. With a feel of stepping back in time, we found peace and solace in this wonderful spiritual space. We were the only people there, which meant we could take our time to appreciate the stained glass windows and historical architecture. It's always worth reading up on the history of places like this... so interesting, and it then you realise this church a very special place indeed.
In the hustle and bustle of big city life it’s rare to find somewhere so peaceful and serene. St Etheldreda’s is such a place. Tucked in amongst lawyers offices, or companies and recording studios this little pool is solitude sits quietly waiting for those who need to collect their thoughts. A beautiful church surrounded by ornate stained glass windows. Perfect.
A true hidden gem , this church is tucked away down an elegant street. You can't even see the church as it is set back from the surrounding buildings, but it is worth hunting out. This small church dates back to 1300 and it shows. The stained glass windows are beautiful, and there are various plaques and statues dating back many years. Whether it be for prayer or simply to get away from the bustle of the city this church is worth a visit.
My husband and I celebrated an intimate Convalidation Ceremony at St. Etheldreda's at 4pm in February 2023. We could not have been more pleased with everyone who made our day so lovely and memorable, from the Parish Administrator, to the organist and soloist, to of course Father Tom Thomas. This church is renowned for its history and beauty, and as the photos attached illustrate it is easy to see why. We can't recommend St. Etheldreda's enough!
Amazing little church in the middle of offices, workplaces where you can reset and fulfill your soul with holy spirit. I used to come for daily lunch time masses when I was working at Farringdon years ago! worth visiting!Visited onWeekday
A beautiful church- located past Chancery Lane station. Lovely parish. One of the finest sets of stain glass windows I have seen in central London. Regular mass times.
The stained glass windows are a delight - especially those in the Crypt. There are many churches in London but this is definitely one to visit.
The history of this old church the oldest Catholic church in England? is palpable. A place of peace and beauty. Was particularly happy to see Irish saint, Naomh Brighid, St. Bridget, in a stained glass pane. You can buy a nicely illustrated history guide of the church for a fiver. There was no-one there while we visited. Don't be shy! It's actually a relief to be alone in peace in the centre of London.
Amazing church, stain glass is so beautiful and lots of history. Went to Sunday Mass and it was very nice. I would recommend checking this church out.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
